Hot on the heels of its ratings success with “Star Wars: The Clone Wars,” the Cartoon Network is looking to strike while the iron is hot and add more original animated content to their line-up. Â
First up will be a new Saturday morning series based on the popular Hot Wheels toy line, called “Hot Wheels: Battle Force 5.”Â
According to Variety, the move is in keeping with chief content creator Rob Sorcher’s desire to cultivate boys’ action and adventure shows, with an emphasis on bankable brands like Batman and Star Wars.
The new animated series will be produced by Nelvana and Vancouver’s Nerd Corp Entertainment. The series is set to debut early in 2009.
On a related note, there is also a potential Hot Wheels movie in development.  Sony Pictures is currently toying with the idea and looking at Joel Silver to produce.Â
