Director Zack Snyder previewed half an hour of the much anticipated “Watchmen” yesterday in West Hollywood and then took a few minutes to answer some questions about the upcoming film.
Snyder says the current running time for this cut of the film is 163 minutes, but more cuts could be made, if necessary. Snyder also said 20th Century Fox’s lawsuit against Warner Brothers over the film rights to the popular graphic novel hasn’t really affected him or the release schedule.  Snyder said that Warner execs  “would have come and stopped us if they wanted to. But they haven’t yet. We are having fun. And we are just making a movie.”
As for the potential for more “Watchmen” films, Snyder said, ” I don’t know that. That would be interesting. But there can’t be a sequel. There can’t be a prequel. Not with me involved. They might be able to find someone that would do it, but it wouldn’t be me. That’s crazy talk.”
One sequel Snyder was able to talk about is the upcoming sequel to “300.”  Snyder told IESB the action will take place between the Battle of Thermopylae and the Battle of Plataea, the battle that narrator Dilios is at while re-telling the story of King Leonidas and the mighty Spartans to a new group of warriors at the end of the first film.
The story is being written by Frank Miller and while Snyder is eager to see what Miller will produce, he won’t have any input on the writing process.Â

Damn, I was hoping for Plataea. But I’m sure it will be cool all the same.

I’m glad to hear that about a Watchmen sequel.. It’s a self-contained story that doesn’t go beyond, and that’s the way it should stay.
If someone wants to get sequel-happy, why not make “The Incredibles 2”??

I thought 300 ended on a good note, Leonidas died and became an internet meme. I mean who much more awesome can you get? Its really just cashing in on the success of the first movie and its going to fail unless some bigger than life character steps forward and fills Leonidas shoes.
And yeah, I’d love to see a new Incredibles I’d pay my firstborn to see that at the cinema.

There is talk inside Hollywood of Watchmen 2 – its going to a prequel of the early group…
Chris says
Not sure a prequel of the early group would work. One of the things about Watchmen is the darkness of it and the like. The ‘original’ group didn’t operate in those times so it would be totally different! Personally not in favour!
