During an on-line chat with the Los Angeles Times, “Iron Man” director Jon Favreau offered a few hints about what fans can look for when “Iron Man 2” hits theaters in 2010.
Writer Justin Therous is working on a first-draft of the script with Favreau. Favreau is also working with a story board artist and costume designer on the look and feel for the next installment.
“We’re playing with who the villain should be and what we should incorporate from the comic book. And how it will lead into the Avengers,” Favreau said.
Favreau said he has an “interesting take” on popular Iron Man nemesis the Mandarin which “allows us to incorporate the whole pantheon of villains”. He added they “need some version of ‘classic villains’ in these movies” but is aware that many “don’t hold up well to time and to the big screen.”
One thing the second installment in the series will address is Tony Stark’s revealing to the world his secret identity.
“He announced who he was and we have now officially departed from the standard secret ID superhero,” Favreau said. Â “Tony was already famous before the announcement. What would really happen if this went down? Fun to explore.”
Favreau also said he will be working closely with other directors from the Marvel Studios fold to help create a consistent universe for the movies. Â
“I think its important for all filmmakers working for Marvel to collaborate so there is a consistency in the films,” he said. Favreau said he didn’t work as closely with “The Incredible Hulk” director Louis Leterrier as he would have liked, but that he hopes “to be in contact with directors in the future.”
“Iron Man” was released on DVD or Blu-Ray earlier this week.
