NBC has teamed with Ford Motor Co. and Yates Racing, which operates two motor-sports teams in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, on a promotion for the network’s upcoming series “Knight Rider,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Race car driver Travis Kvapil will drive the specially painted No. 28 “Knight Rider” Ford for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Bristol Motor Speedway.
The race will be broadcast Saturday, August 23, 2008 on ESPN and ESPN HD.
The reimagined “Knight Rider” was introduced to audiences by NBC earlier this year in a 2-hr TV movie. The new series, starring Justin Bruening in the lead and Val Kilmer as the voice of K.I.T.T. (now a Ford Mustang), will premiere on September 24, 2008. The original 1980’s series ran for five seasons and starred a young David Hasselhoff as Michael Knight, with Emmy winning actor William Daniels (“St. Elsewhere”) providing the voice of K.I.T.T., the super Trans AM.
