Captain Jack = Captain America?

Captain Jack = Captain America?

July 25, 2008 By Sam Sloan 9 Comments

Could Torchwood boss Captain Jack Harkness end up being Captain America? If rumors prove true then the answer is yes.

At the San Diego Comic Con actor John Barrowman, the man behind that famous WWI army coat in BBC’s hit show “Torchwood,” was asked if he has been approached for the role of that other famous Captain. Sitting in on a Torchwood panel Barrowman, after much persuasion, finally admitted that he has been in substantive talks to portray the famous Captain for the May 2011 film “The First Avenger: Captain America.”

Barrowman certainly has the looks and build for the role and his fans are hoping he gets the part.

Stay tuned to Slice of SciFi for updates on all the latest “Torchwood” and “Captain America” developments.

I like Barrowman a lot, but I think that he’s about ten years too old for the part. Cap should be in his early to mid twenties. That being said I can see an entertaining Captain America film with him as Cap. It would also be fun watching the far right and Fox News meltdown when they find out Mr. Barrowman is gay. Their little minds won’t be able to cope.

He’s a Scot who lived in the US since he was 9 or 10.

I want this to happen just so I can have a gay Captain America that will piss off all the far right people who don’t get what Captain America stands for anyway and have never read a Cap comic in their life.

I’m not sure whether it will be more fun to watch the homophobic fanboys freak out, or the Fox News meltdown. Both guarantee to be entertaining.

This is why the studio execs wouldn’t let this happen. An openly gay actor playing America’s No.1 superhero? I see the reasoning though – Captain Jack..hmm Captain ..America..both captains! Wow the symmetry! Please.

We have Robert Downey Jr and Ed Norton ..and along comes relative unknown John Barrowman. He’s an appealing actor but no where near the star power they’ll be looking for.

    Not happening..guaranteed 🙂

I’m not sure which panels you guys were sitting in on, but all Barrowman said was that he would love to do the Captain American. Not that he’d been approached about it.

The fact that you want him more for being gay, then the great acting he does, exposes the weakness of the rabid left.

I love Torchwood and Capt. Jack, but Borrowman as Captain America, no….just, no.

Too old and not buff enough.
