Cable is expected, for the first time in television history, to outshine traditional broadcast networks when the Emmy nominations are announced on Thursday. Major nods are expected to go to shows such as “Dexter,” ‘The Tudors,” “Mad Men,” the Glenn Close drama “Damages,” “The Wire,” “Curb Your Enthusiasm” and several more. Network nominations will likely go to ABC’s two SF hits shows “Lost” and “Pushing Daises.” Other likely candidates are NBC’s “30 Rock,” “The Office” and Fox’s “The Family Guy.” If that show gets a nomination it will be the first primetime animated show to do so since 1961’s “The Flintstones.”
ABC will host the 60th annual Primetime Emmy Awards live on September 21, 2008.

Wait, Family Guy will be the first prime time animated show to get nominated for an Emmy since the Flintstones? Does that mean in all it’s years the Simpsons was never nominated?

The Simpsons have been nominated and even won several Emmy Awards over its long history on television, however, not in the one-hour category that The Family Guy is in. If won it will be the first for an hour long animated series since The Flintstones 47 years ago.
Going up against The Family Guy is Imaginationland (South Park) and Justice League: The New Frontier.
