Will There Be a “Hulk 3”?

Will There Be a “Hulk 3”?

July 9, 2008 By Sam Sloan 25 Comments

Marvel is indicating that another sequel to “The Incredible Hulk” isn’t definite for the near future. The second film about the big green guy has only done about as well as the first one which came out in 2003. Taking inflation into account, this second movie actually may be doing a little worse on the financial front.

“We’re happy with the financial results, even if they [simply] reach the first film’s levels,” a Marvel spokesperson said. “Having a sequel is not the definition of success.”

The second film cost $200 million to make and to date has made a little over $125 million domestic. However, Universal Pictures seems happy with the overall dollar figures when both domestic and international monies are counted.

“All we can say as a studio is that we are very pleased with the result,” Universal domestic distribution president Nikki Rocco said.

If there will be Hulk 3, for sure I will be the one of the first to line up in theatres. I’ve seen both the first and second Hulk films, and it really put me to an extreme awe. I love the graphics and the action. I hope Hulk 3 will still satisfy my visual needs!

Excuse me, but “The Incredible Hulk” is not a sequel to “Hulk”. So, the question is, will there be an “Incredible Hulk 2”. And, with the plans to work towards an Avengers film, I think the answer is no.

    Shouldn’t there be a “Hulk 2” before there’s a “Hulk 3”?

Picky, picky, picky. I think we all know what is meant by a Hulk 3. Honestly!

You see, they should’ve listened to me and used the Peter David Hulk as opposed to the Jack Kirby Hulk. Who wouldn’t want to go to the movies to see the famous scene where the Hulk walks into a war zone to help an armed insurrection against a brutal dictator, while wearing bunny slippers? 🙂

I don’t think it was really the box office takings that stalled a Hulk sequel. The takings were respectable after all. It made a profit, but the word of mouth was terrible. My guess would be that DVD sales were not that strong and it killed all momentum.

Movies like this, catered to the geek crowd, they make their money in DVD sales.

I agree with the Thumb – but the only way I would by this movie would be if they included the 70 minutes that hit the editor’s floor.

Reboots are so fun. Think how crazy movies have gotten with the numbers. Now you can say it’s the 3rd Hulk movie but not Hulk 3 because the 2nd Movie is the new Hulk 1. Now I remember after Batman Begins someone referring the coming Dark Knight as Batman 6 and I’m all… but Batman Begins started over so either it’s Batman Begins 2 or Batman: Nolan/Bale 2 minus Holmes. But even if he wanted to use Batman numbers not including cartoon movies then Dark Knight would be Batman 9 because they have been making live action Batman movies since 1943. Does every chapter of 40s Serial count as one? Well then DK would be in the 20s or 30s. And how often do you go crazy trying to explain which Star Wars movie you’re talking about to someone who’s not into Star Wars.

Me: The first Star Wars. . .
    Other: Episode 1?
Me: No, that’s the 4th Star Wars movie. I’m talking about A New Hope.
Other: I’ve never Seen that one.
Me: Yes you have, it’s the Original Star Wars!
Other: yeah yeah, “help me Obi Wan Kenobi, yadda yadda.” So that’s episode 1?
Me: No, that’s episode 4 it’s just the first movie.
Other: So which episode is A New Hope? Is that the cartoon?
    Me: GRRRR, listen it’s easy 1st is 4, 2nd is 5, 3rd is 6, 1st is 4. . . no wait 4th is 1, 5th is 2 and 6th is 3. yeah!
Other: Ummm are you having a sesure? So which one is your favorite
    Me: 1st!
Other: You like that Jar Jar thing?
Me: No that’s 1 my favorite is 4.
Other: But you said 4th is 1. . . no. . . I think I got it. . . so then it 4th is 1 and 1st is 4 then my favorite is the one where Captain Kirk fights that guy from Fantasy Island.
Me: Yes finally, you got it! Just remember that new with the New Kirk 11th is now 1.

Hulk is just not cool. I’ve always thought he was a really really lame character. This is why the movies will never do more than just average or worse.

What?! Because YOU think it’s a lame character, then the movies will never do more than average?? That makes no sense. Why, because normally if you like a movie you tend to spend millions of dollars buying tickets? Who are you Tony Stark?

The first one (2003) was lame. This latest one was awesome. They should make a sequel. Not to mention all the loose ends they left untied at the end of this one. They have to make a sequel.

Why worry? Do you really think Marvel would abandon one of their most popular characters? Not likely. Whether It’ll be TIH2 or another Hulk reboot is up for debate, but be sure that Hulk will be on the big screen again.

I think they should have another Hulk but cut down a bit on the drama and add more action. Things I thought they could have done better: They plot seemed to drag a bit. It seemed like people had to wait too long between tranformations. Liv Tyler was absolutely awful. She seemed to be wispering all of her lines, which added to the movie seeming draggy. There should have been more of a build up to the appearance of Abomination. The fight at the end should have been longer. They wasted precious time hanging on to that helicopter. That I thought was retarded.

I believe the whole problem with the Hulk Movies, is who ever decided to theme the movies from the T.V. show should be shot. They should have stayed with the original comic story line, instead of some anti-nuclear weapons statement. The Hulk story isn’t a man on the run, with the viewers waiting for him to be cured, the viewer is waiting to see banner transform and kick ass and smash,it was created and written originally on a Jeckel and Hyde theme.

I am afraid the damage may be done, oh what could have been…….

I agree. The Hulk began to exist when the gamma bomb, created by Bruce Banner, exploded. He was not created scientifically, or genetically. The tv version of the Hulk was exceptional during the lame 1970’s and 1980’s. Marvel, please correctly adapt the comic book character to the movies.

I was very impressed by the Hulk’s appearance. He was incredibly muscular. He was very well defined. I also liked the human/Hulk size differential. Well done.

In the movie, the Hulk did not seem to be strong enough. During the battle with the army on the campus, he was trying to lift a Humvee so he could smash it on the metal statue. He seemed to be struggling just to lift the Humvee. He should be able to simply lift it, as if it were a feather Duster. Another example: When the Abomination was finally defeated, the Hulk kicked him like a bag of potatoes. It seemed as if he had to work very hard just to kick, or push, the Abomination a few feet. He should be able to kick the Abomination at least the length of a football field.

Another thing I thought was done badly occurred during the scene in Dr. Sterns office. During Bruce Banner’s “hulk out” his shoulder joint came out of its placeand poked through the skin. That looked ridiculous.

If they do make a incredible hulk 2, will there be iron man in it. If u seen the incredible hulk movie, at the very end, Robert Downey JR. apears as Iron man. That makes another higher chance of another Incredible Hulk movie

whoever says hulk sucks is crazy. hulk is almost the best hero ever. no other hero has strength like him. i totaly think they should make a sequel. because hulk is very popular and lots of people will see the movie.especially if they put unnexpected villains or heros like they can put hulks arch nemisis the other green hulk. and as a hero they can bring in she hulk. that would be the most awesome hulk movie ever !

The whole problem with both Hulk movies, was the initial theme or ideal to continue the TV version of events instead of the true comic book story line. Marvel has forgotten the Hulk/Banner connection is a Jeckel and Hyde story. Too much time is spent developing the Banner side of the story, and I’d remind Marvel, the name of the movie isn’t the Incredible Banner. In reality no one is going to the movie to see Banner they are going to see the Hulk. 80% of the film should be the Hulk NOT Banner.

I remember all the behind the scene stories of how Bill Bixby was so upset, at the attention Lou was getting from the fans. Bill saw himself as the star of the show, but what he and Marvel failed to see was the Name of the show, again, was the Incredible Hulk NOT the Incredible Banner. The fans flocked to Lou not Bill, because Lou was the Hulk not Bill, and the fans acted accordingly. The Banner character has to be lesser character. This is the flaw in the writing of the Hulk story lines. Marvel with both the TV show and the movie versions of the Hulk, decided to make Banner the main character and NOT The Hulk. And this has been the failure of the whole production of bringing the Hulk to the big screne. If there is a reboot, Marvel should abandon making Banner the MAIN character, it has failed. They should try making the Hulk the main character, I bet their attendanced to the viewing of the film would double.
