“Jericho” Stars Fine With Movie Idea

“Jericho” Stars Fine With Movie Idea

June 26, 2008 By Sam Sloan 6 Comments

At least two of the stars of the now defunct CBS “Jericho” series said that they would be up for doing a full-length, big screen feature film based on the television show.

“Jericho” was canceled after one season by CBS but fans inundated network headquarters with 20 tons of peanuts sparking execs to bring the show back for a hypenated second season.

Ashley Scott, her character on the show was Emily Sullivan, and Brad Beyer, who played Stanley Richmond, recently told gathered press that they have been paying attention to what fans have been suggesting over the internet for what would be the best future for the apocalyptic show and think that the movie idea is the best of all options, and they would be willing to do at least one.

“We got here and caught wind of a possible movie idea, which we thought was really good,” Scott said on the red carpet during this weeks Saturn Awards ceremony. “I think Brad had heard about it online the other day, and I just heard tonight, and I thought that would be really wonderful, wouldn’t it? Kind of put a closing on it.”

Even though CBS brought the show back for a 7 episode final season, many fans still felt like the network failed to offer adequate closure to the series and are still campaigning for more.

“We kind of feel like it needs some closure, because it still feels kind of weird,” Beyer said. “I mean, we didn’t get to a whole second season. … I think you can do a lot more with it. I think there’s a lot of different ways you can go with the story.”

Series producer, Carol Barbee is still working to find a suitable outlet for the continuation of “Jericho.” It had been hoped that the SCI FI Channel would pick it up since it was showing season one in reruns on the cabler, however nothing new has come down that pipe for sometime now.

“I think we’re all very passionate about the show.” said Scott. “We have been from the moment I read the script, the first script, the pilot. I think we’re all very passionate about it. We’re so thankful that our fans have been so incredible. It’s been such a blessing to know that we’re thought of that way. I think, at least speaking for myself, I know I’d be back.”

Beyer added: “Yeah. I think everybody that I keep in contact with would definitely jump on board with it. … We’re all pretty much open to it. It was such a great, positive experience, why wouldn’t we want to do it again?”

No word from series star Skeet Ulrich if he would be available for a project on this grand of a scale. Stay tuned to Slice of SciFi for any substantial updates to this story.

I think it is great that Ashley and Brad would love to do a movie of Jericho to give us some closure but I think that they are really missing some of what us fans want. I don’t want to have a closure of the story of Jericho….we need to have quality programming on tv from week to week and for me at least, Jericho was that quality programming. I don’t want it to end on tv at all. I am still hoping for a tv commitment from one of the other cable networks, we are keeping our collective fingers crossed.

A movie would be a great idea to bring the closure needed!

NO!! no movie! I am a big fan of JERICHO but a movie is only 2 hours, a tv series can do so much more. If JERICHO hits the big screen it’ll ruin the chance for a 3rd season which it really needs. Who doesn’t want to see Jake and Chaves go rescue Hawkins? Thinking about everything else that’s on tv right now that somehow survived the ratings is so boring when compared to JERICHO. They never once ran out of ideas. The JERICHO crew always delivers extreme entertainment that never gets boring. If you can’t appreciate JERICHO get out of the USA because you are not one of us.

I don’t want closure. I want to see it continue. This show is so much better than the mundane crap that is on CBS now. Did they really think they could replace Jericho with something like the Mentalist? Or The Ex List? Give me a break. I wish more people would demand better. Every night the same old stuff comes on and when something awesome comes along no one can see the posibilities. This series is so much better than anything else on right now.

Ask for a series of movies!

I have no idea why anyone thought the Ex List would be a good series… it’s like someone said “Hey, that show My Name is Earl seems really popular, let’s make a show just like it, only with a woman in the lead!”

    Meh.

That said, I really like The Mentalist. I’d rather have more Jericho or Moonlight, but given some of the other options out there, I’m happy to have it.

    BRING BACK JERICHO

Because of my business travels, I do not watch a lot of television or series. Recently, I got engaged with the series “Jericho”. Before watching the first episode, I was skeptical of this show. After the first episode, I was engaged and addicted and have watched the whole first season within two weeks.

Many years ago, maybe fifty or more, there was I believe a CBS Westinghouse theater program on tv on a nuclear attack on a U.S.city with nuclear winter. It was scary at the time when I was a young boy because of the Cold War with the Soviet Union and China along with the possibility of nuclear devastation which was very real.

Most people may regard Jericho as sci-fi. In this day and age, it is more realistic than a lot of people may want to acknowledge. The fact it was cancelled by CBS midway through the second season is a tragedy. I would welcome a new venue for Jericho on televlsion or if necessary a movie to close out a truly entertaining series.

Hope some media venue can pick it up and reunite the very energized and entertaining cast.

    GOOD LUCK
