“Transformers” Gets MTV Best Film Award

“Transformers” Gets MTV Best Film Award

June 2, 2008 By Sam Sloan 3 Comments

“Transformers,” blockbuster film about robot-on-robot action took home the Golden Popcorn trophy for best film at the MTV Movie Awards on Sunday night, and Johnny Depp won two buckets for best comedic performance and best villain in “Sweeny Todd.”

Michael Bay, “Transformer” director was on hand to accept the award for best film. During his acceptance speech Bay said that “Transformers 2” would begin shooting on Monday (June 2) with the story picking up two years after the first film with Shia’s character now in college.

As we reported earlier on our website, Rainn Wilson of TV’s “The Office” will play one of Shia’s college professors in the sequel.

“I just love the idea of me being in a giant Michael Bay movie,” Wilson said during the MTV carpet walk.

I was a little disappointed that it beat out Juno, yeah, it’s genre related and gave some great eye candy but come on, Juno was a really great movie!

Just to clarify, Johnny Depp won best comedic performance for “Pirates 3”, not “Sweeney Todd”.

Actually Depp won two MTV awards – as you indicated and as we indicated:

Best Comedic Performance for his role as Captain Jack in Pirates of the Caribbean. He also won the award for Best Villain for his role in Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.

We mentiond the first in our article without naming the film.
