Hick’s Picks 32

May 14, 2008 By Michael Hickerson 3 Comments

Spectacular Black Cat will have a familiar voice

When the Black Cat makes her debut appearance this weekend on The Spectacular Spider-Man, fans hear a familiar voice bringing Felicia Hardy and her alter-ego to life. Battlestar Galactica’s Tricia Helfer is lending her voice to bring the Black Cat to life, according to TV Guide On-Line.

In the comic books, Black Cat was a cat burglar who regularily crossed paths with Spider-Man, often bringing him bad luck. Later, the Cat and Spider-Man dated and she underwent a procedure to enhance her ability to bring bad luck to her foes.

In the new series, which has had a fresh take on the familiar Spider-Man universe, Black Cat and Spider-Man must team up to stop the Chameleon. Fans can also expect a lot of flirting between the two according to TV Guide.

Spectacular Spider-Man airs Saturday mornings at 10 a.m. on Kids’ WB.

Lucas teams up with Magic Kingdom

Star Wars fans who can’t wait until August to catch a glimpse of the upcoming Clone Wars movie and television series may want to book a trip to DisneyWorld. LucasFilm announced yesterday that sneak previews of the upcoming series will be part of the theme park’s Star Wars celebrations weekends this year according to SciFi Wire.

This year’s events take place each weekend in June from Friday to Sunday, starting on June 6 and concluding June 29. Among the features offered to fans will be “Behind the Force – Experience The Clone Wars,” an exploration of the creation of this groundbreaking Star Wars feature film. Fans will get a chance to meet a representative of Lucasfilm and, at the culmination of the presentation, see an exclusive clip of Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

In addition, several representatives from the live-action series will be on hand to celebrate a galaxy far, far away with the fans. The line-up includes:

June 6-8: Jeremy Bulloch (Boba Fett) and Daniel Logan (young Boba Fett)
June 13-15: Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca) and David Prowse (Darth Vader)
June 20-22: Amy Allen (Aayla Secura) and Matthew Wood (General Grievous and voice artist in The Clone Wars)
June 27-29: Dave Filoni

Darko 2 won’t include original director

The proposed sequel to the cult hit Donnie Darko won’t include the original director, Richard Kelly.

On his blog, Kelly wrote that he and production partner Scott McKittrick do not have the rights to the movie and won’t make a dime off a sequel.

“To set the record straight, here’s a few facts I’d like to share with you all,” Kelly wrote on his blog. “I haven’t read this script. I have absolutely no involvement with this production, nor will I ever be involved.”

The proposed sequel would reportedly center on Donnie’s sister.

Another Smallville depature?

According to TV Guide’s Michael Ausiello, another original Smallville regular could be headed for the exit. Despite previous reports that a deal for her services next season was being finalized, it now appears that negotiations with Allison Mack, who plays Chloe Sullivan on the hit CW series, are breaking down and that Mack may leave the series.

“This marks quite a turnaround from a few months ago when I deemed Mack a lock to come back next season,” Ausiello said. “And I wasn’t the only one. Although a deal wasn’t signed at the time, Smallville insiders tell me that all indications were that the actress was on board for Season 8.”

However, with the depature of MIchael Rosenbaum and actress Kristen Kreuk taking a recurring role in the upcoming eighth season, Mack went back to the bargaining table, knowing her role on the show was vital, now more than ever.

Should Mack decide to leave the series, the only star left from the first season would be Tom Welling as Clark Kent.

Mack’s potential departure does have some fans speculating on what Smallville would look like next year with most of the original cast gone. The cast would include Clark, Lois and Jimmy Olsen in a full-time capacity. And many fans point out this has already been done on the popular 90’s series Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman.

Smallville airs Thursdays on the CW.

Well, this would just leave the series in a perfect situation to smoothly move to where Superman becomes the hero everyone knows. In the real Superman lore, Lana, Cloe and the rest (except Lex) are nowhere to be found.

I thought Lana WAS in the comics. At least, I know she was in the movies.

Kyle: Yeah she was, from time to time though not as a major player.

On another note, how STUPID do you have to be to even think that Donnie Darko needs a sequel, let alone try to do one without Kelly? I guess the same level of stupid needed to slice Southland Tales to ribbons then shelve it for 2 years. *Grr*

[…] We already knew that Kristen Kreuk and Michael Rosenbaum were leaving the show as regulars. Apparently, that fact gave Allison Mack, who plays Chloe Sullivan, the guts to try renegotiating, since that would leave her as the only regular (other than Tom Welling) to have been on since the beginning. However, it looks like those negotiations may be going poorly, and Chloe may be on her way out. […]
