Hick’s Picks 30

Hick’s Picks 30

Original stars return to Witch Mountain

Kim Richards and Ike Eisenmann who starred in the original Witch Mountain movies for Disney will have a cameo in the upcoming remake of Return to Witch Mountain according to Reuters.

Eisenmann will play a sheriff and Richards a waitress in at a roadhouse called Ray’s in the town of Stony Creek. The roles are meant as an homage to the original films. In the updated version, Eisenmann’s and Richards’ characters will help two children with paranmormal powers who are on the run from the governement.

The newly imagined version of Witch Mountain is currently filming and features Dwayne Johnson and Carla Gugino as the leads. The movie also features Tom Everett Scott, Chris Marquette, Billy Brown and Cheech Marin.

Del Toro shares his vision for The Hobbit

Last week we reported that director Guillermo del Toro will helm The Hobbit and its sequel. Now, del Toro is sharing a little bit of his vision for the movies.

When it comes to filming, del Toro wants to use as many natural locations as possible.

“I would like to avoid is the recreation of the natural environments in CG, I don’t like doing that,” he said. “The movie is essentially a journey movie, I think you need to use locations as much as possible.”

Del Toro also said that he’s been in contact with Andy Serkis, Sir Ian McKellen, Howard Shore, John Howe, Gino Acevedo, and Richard Taylor from the original Lord of the Rings trilogy in order to ensure cosistency between his works and Peter Jackson’s trilogy.

Moonlight returns to decent numbers

While it’s still one of the lowest rated shows on CBS, Friday night’s return of Moonlight still got good numbers and won its time period reports SyFy Portal.

The first post-strike new epsiode was down only four percent and won its timeslot. Overall, the ratings for the show have only dropped fourteen percent since the series premiere last year. Moonlight got a 5.0 rating for the 9 p.m. EST time slot.

Moonlight is currently considered on the bubble for renewal. CBS has not given an official renewal notice, but reports from industry insiders have been positive that the show will return for a second season.

I wonder if anyone ever just would re-release an old film like witch instead of remaking it. Yes, I was just 8 when that first one came out, so I’m not really upset about a new version. Could be fun if done right. Next Disney needs to do the Apple Dumpling Gang. Either the original or sure, try a “re-do.” Just don’t touch Tron, ET, or Close Encounters… (please)

Geez, why remake it? There’s no reason that story had to end. It’s not that I think it was all that great the first time, but if it’s iconic enough to remake it, it should be iconic enough to respect it. Forget the homage – those characters could come back as themselves, right? Geez, anyone could write that story (and it could be better than the original).

To Chuck B: There are people who think ETWM was a classic (for them anyways) just as much as Close Encounters, Tron, etc. Let’s just do the modernized sequel rather than the remake. Leave the heritage intact.
