Breaking News! Peterson Out of Ender’s Game

Breaking News! Peterson Out of Ender’s Game

April 19, 2008 By Sam Sloan 5 Comments

We just received word from Charlie Jane Anders, news editor over at io9.com, that Wolfgang Peterson (“Das Boot,” “Enemy Mine”) has dropped out of directing the big screen adaptation of Orson Scott Card’s “Ender’s Game.

Producers are currently on the search for a new director to take Peterson’s place and plans are still underway to begin shooting in early 2009.

Some of the other highlights in this news is that Card has finished the first draft of the script for the film, but no major news about casting has come down the pike. Good news is that the visual effects are expected to be stunning and totally off the charts.

For more details check out io9’s interview with Producer Lynn Hendee at io9.com.

    Meh.
The guy’s directorial history is patchy, at best.
For every Das Boot there’s a bunch of Troys.
    What’s Sam Raimi up to?

Card has says he would love to have Joss Whedon direct Ender’s Game.

    I think that has potential…

I have never seen a movie go through this kind of on-again off-again development. The first time I heard about a film adaptation of this book, I was a freshman in college and a seven-year-old Haley Joel Osment was considered the front runner for the lead. He just turned 20.

I honsetly hope they don’t make this into a movie, the book is just perfect as it is.

Although, knowing that Josh Whedon is a fan of each others, maybe it would work. But I still like my images of Ender, Bean, Petra, and the rest of the gish in my head than any other child actor could do.

this movie has been in development hell forever. i still remember hearing of a version around the time of the release of the phantom menace that would have had Jake LLoyd a ender wiggin.

Orson Scott Card has to be the most under appreciated writer in science fiction today. the guy is awesome. one of my fave books of his is on writing science fiction, for his sense of humor.
