Will “Medium” Get 5? Ask the Medium

April 1, 2008 By Sam Sloan 1 Comment

patricia.jpgIn a recent conference call interview with reporters, actress Patricia Arquette, who stars as psychic Allison DuBois on NBC’s hit series “Medium,” said that while she is very happy with fan response for the show over the last four seasons, she isn’t sure if the series will make it to five as we and others have been reporting.

Everyone will know for sure tomorrow after NBC gets a leg-up on all the other major networks by revealing its new fall line-up a full month earlier than everyone else.

One thing operating for the show’s chances of another pick-up season is the fact that Arquette still has one year remaining on her NBC contract. Of course they could always fulfill that arrangement with a TV movie or guest spots on other existing shows, but with the overall popularity of “Medium,” especially with the growing demographic of woman 18-49, NBC might want to keep her right where she is.

“Well, how do I feel like it’s going?” Arquette said, responding to one of the question’s from a reporter. “I feel like we’ve really had a lot of good luck with having Anjelica Huston come in and having Rosanna [Arquette’s famous actress sister] come in and now Kelly Preston is going to come in. So we’ve been really lucky in that way; having a lot of great guest stars, and that’s been really exciting…Usually, I watch the whole season at the end,” she added. “I don’t actually watch it every week, because we’re usually working when it’s on. And then the idea of, you know, making my children watch, wait around while I’m watching myself is too strange of an idea for me.”

When asked point blank if she thought “Medium” would be returning for a fifth season Arquette replied, “I don’t know if there’ll be a next season. I know we do have very devoted fans and that we’re grateful for that. … I don’t know what’ll happen, you know? [But], yeah, I would like to come back,” she said.

Keep watching for updates on this story after tomorrow’s NBC schedule announcements. We will have all the details for you here at the Slice of SciFi website and on our weekly podcast and XM-Satellite Radio show.

“Medium” airs every Mondays at 10PM ET/PT on the NBC network.

What a strong ending for last night’s episode, too. I didn’t expect it to take the turn that it did.
