Singleton Rolling With “The A-Team”

March 20, 2008 By Sam Sloan 2 Comments

singelton.jpgJohn Singleton’s film version of 1980s TV series “The A-Team” is now set for release on June 12, 2009.

Singleton will direct the action-adventure for 20th Century Fox. The script will be penned by the team of Michael Brandt and Derek Haas, the same two scribes behind the hit Western remake “3:10 to Yuma” and the upcoming James McAvoy SF movie “Wanted,” due for release on June 27, 2008.

Casting for the TV to big screen adaptation of “The A-Team” has yet to be chosen but the plot will still be based on lead character Hannibal Smith (played by George Peppard in the 80’s series) and his team of former special forces soldiers. The A-Team came to be after they were framed for a crime they never committed. Right now Singleton is being mum on if the timeline will be the Vietnam era (like the original) or be updated to the 21st Century Desert Storm or Iraqi Freedom scenario.

Singleton has just entered the pre-production phase of “Tulia,” a crime drama that reunites Halle Barry and Billy Bob Thornton. It has also recently been announced that the director will helm the fantasy action flick “Luke Cage,” a film about a wrongly convicted man who escaping from prison after gaining superhuman strength. He becomes a mercenary superhero helping those in need of justice who can’t find any through normal channels.

The big question is will ‘Air Wolf’ be the next ’80’s TV show to hit the big screen? When they decide to redo ‘Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman’ it’s time to get the hell off this planet – or maybe just nuke Hollywood. The radiation may help the studio executive to evolve!
