Disease was rampant in the 17th Century. From all of which, plague was the most feared disease of all. The victims died within days, in agony from fever and infected swelling. It spread at a horrifying rate, and could ravage a town or even a city within weeks.
With no cure, the powers that be, took on dire methods to contain it.
Where many countries built large plague hospitals, England preferred cheaper, local solutions. the victims were shut in their own houses and left to die. These homes full of death were called “The Sickhouse.”
“The Sickhouse,” directed by Curtis Reynolds, stars Gina Philips, Alex Hassell, Kellie Shirley, Andrew Knott, Jack Bailey and John Lebar. It is now available on DVD.
