We are getting close to that time when networks will decide what shows return and which they will bury in the dead-bin. “Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles” fans can relax, FOX will renew the series for another season set to start for the 2008-2009 Fall Season.
The “Knight Rider” movie experiment appears to have worked for NBC. They have ordered up a season’s worth of new weekly episodes for the new KITT.
CBS continues to hold its vampire series “Moonlight” in a holding pattern. Believe it or not the network, after the successful fan campaign to get “Jericho” a second season, is holding out to see what kind of fan response they can get from the show’s passionate viewers before making a final decision on the series. Did “Jericho” change how CBS looks at its shows? Could be because even if “Moonlight” gets passed over for the opening fall season, the Eye Network may hold out new episodes of the throat-biter as a mid-season replacement.
“Reaper” fans will be sad to hear that their CW fave may meet the Grim Reaper. Going against ABC’s mega hit show “Lost” this week will probably spell doom for the young CW show. While no final decision has been reached on its fate, things don’t look good for a pickup.
“Bones,” “Ghost Whisperer” and NBC’s “Medium” missed the axe and will be returning.
Finally, the big boy — “Jericho.” CBS has yet to decide this show’s fate. The LIVE viewing numbers haven’t been great, but they also haven’t been that bad. Anytime a network can garner 6 to 8 million consistant viewers to sit through a one hour show week after week with all those dreaded commercials is a good thing. More importantly, CBS is looking at the DVR numbers for the show and are ecstatic. Will this be enough to keep the show on CBS? We should know within a week or two. If the final episode (there’s only two left in Season Two) is a wrap up with no hanging threads, then we can be sure CBS will not give it a third season. However, if the show ends with a big cliffhanger, then that is a sign to fans that “Jericho” will return for Number Three. Keep watching!

Wait, wait. Now they WANT us sending wacky things through the mail? Since when did it become my job to organize a fan campaign for -any- show I like watching? As soon as the first few episodes air, are we supposed to find our nearest forum and start planning strategy?
Maybe Moonlight fans should send empty syringes. That’ll thrill CBS. Or not empty syringes! Fill them with cherry jello!
John from Jersey says
We have confirmation on the “Terminator” series? Something other than an interview with an actor expressing an opinion?
Kyle Nin says
New episodes of “Reaper” will only be aired opposite of “Lost” for this week and next week. After that, The CW is moving it back to Tuesdays for the show’s return of new episodes in April. Hopefully, The CW will WAIT until then to make a decision.

John from Jersey: Inside sources who wish to remain annonymous (which is understandable) say that Fox execs are happy with the series, see it as a viable product, especially now that there will be a 4th Teminator motion picture with a star with the cred of Christian Bale starring in it. We probably wouldn’t be having this conversation however if there were no movie coming out. This is Fox afterall.

Since I’m from Canada, my viewing habits don’t count anyways, but Jericho is in the worst possible timeslot for me being able to view it live. But I always make sure to watch it on Wednesday after work.

That is great news about Jericho if this is true. I certainly hope that Cbs realizes that the fanbase of this show is rabid and we absolutely are wanting our 3rd season!

I certainly hope that CBS does take non-traditional viewing into account and keeps Jericho on for another “full” season.

[Not SoSF’s Sam] I hope that CBS is indeed ready to count all viewers–and renew Jericho!

mediumfan says
How certain are you about “Medium” returning? Because NBC hasn’t made an announcement about this show yet. I hope you’re right, because I LOVE that show and I reeeeeaally want it to come back next season. Do you have official confirmation that it has definitely been renewed? Pleeease give me some scoop. Thanks so much.
Sam says
To Mediumfan: Nothing official will be coming from NBC until the upfronts in late Spring (usually around May), however, it is looking good. First, Arquette has a binding 5 season contract, the ratings have been good, not great, but good, and annonymous network sources are indicating that execs are pleased with the numbers that the show’s target demographic (woman 18-49) are receiving.
So, while there is no official word from NBC, we are confident enough in what we have been hearing to list it as a returning show. But, NBC will ultimately have the final say when the upfront pickups are announced.
