Either because of or despite the poor critical reviews of the film, the winner of the weekend contest looks to be Roland Emmerich’s “10,000 B.C.,” the prehistoric saga about a man, his abducted love and the quest to get her back by using stampeding mammoths and sleek tribal warring techniques.
Moviegoers either didn’t read all the bad press this film has gotten from critics, including the guys at MoviePulse, or they simply had to find out for themselves. Whatever the reason, the film has grossed a nice tidy of sum of over $35 million, if the current box office figures hold out by the close of theaters across the country this evening.
There were no other SF or genre-related films to make the top five. It will probably be rounded out with “College Road Trip” taking second, Dennis Quaid’s “Vantage Point” holding on to third, followed by the Will Ferrell comedy “Semi-Pro” and finally, the premiere of Jason Statham’s “The Bank Job.”

Why do so many people spend good money on such a bad film?
