“Get Smart” Spinoff Straight-To-DVD

February 29, 2008 By Sam Sloan Leave a Comment

244masioka101806.jpg244nate.jpgWhen the new “Get Smart” movie starring Steve Carell and Anne Hathaway hits the big screen this coming June 20th a spinoff featuring two of the the film’s minor characters will be released almost simultaneously on DVD.

Those two secondary characters being featured on the DVD aren’t minor actors, however. “Heroes” alum Masi Oka and Nate Torrence from the critically acclaimed, but short lived series “Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip” will portray Bruce and Lloyd respectfully. They will be portraying those same two characters in the big screen feature as well but won’t be getting a lot of camera time for that bit.

The DVD, titled “Get Smart’s Bruce and Lloyd Out of Control” will be all about those characters and give them a chance to shine. Neither Carrel or Hathaway make an appearance in the DVD.

“Warner Brothers really responded to those two characters, but it’s also a new idea that Warner Brothers is trying to do, and we are sort of the maiden voyage of that,” stated director Peter Segal at this past weekend’s WonderCon in San Francisco. “Two movies, one coming out in the theater and one on DVD, within a short span of time. But, yeah, it’s very flattering that they responded to these characters, and Masi and Nate are great in the movie, and they’re very funny in the other movie, too.”
