CBS Announces New Pick-ups

February 28, 2008 By Sam Sloan Leave a Comment

cbs.jpgWhile we await a decision from CBS execs over the fate of its weekly vampire series titled “Moonlight,” the Eye Network announced on Thursday is choice for several new shows, all drama. We do know that “Ghost Whisperer” and “The Big Bang Theory” will be returning.

Some of the new shows include “NY-LON” from ABC Studios, “Can Openers,” a Sony Pictures project and “Mythological X” from 20thCentury Fox TV.

“Mythological X” revolves around a woman who discovers — via a psychic — that she has already dated the man she was destined to married. The character then embarks on a mission to find “the one” by combing through all of her old relationships. Scribe scribe Diane Ruggiero (“Veronica Mars”) will exec produce with Jonathan Levin .

Then there’s “Can Openers,” which will be exec produced by Apostle’s Jim Serpico (“Rescue Me”). Johnson (“Ghost Whisperer”) will co-exec produce. This series centers on a young neurosurgical resident trying to find her way in a highly competitive hospital.

“NY-LON,” will be based on the six-episode U.K. series that aired on Channel 4 in fall 2004. Project centers on a man and a woman who attempt an extremely-long distance romance between New York and London after a chance meeting in London.

“It’s a transatlantic romance about star-crossed lovers,” exec Chris Coelen said.

In other new season news Elizabeth Craft and Sarah Fain have joined the staff for the Joss Whedon Fox project “Dollhouse” on the Fox Network. “Dollhouse” follows a top-secret world of people programmed with different personalities, abilities and memories depending on their mission.

Sorry kids, not a lot of hopefuls in this bunch, except possibly the Whedon series, but it will be on Fox — so what kind of chances does it have of staying on even if it is a great show?
