Mmm… Well now that I’ve seen “Introducing the Clone Wars” on Star Wars dot com, I have to say that it has potential. It has legs. The clone wars lasted a while, and when you’re in a war some rules need to be bent, and others broken. I can see the Jedi Order wanting to bolster their ranks, and not having enough masters to take on all the padawans. BTW, I don’t think a Jedi has to be a “Master” to take on an apprentice, just a “Knight” like Obi-Wan was (conferred by the council at the end of episode I) when he took Anakin to be his Padawan.
That is a correct statement. One only need to be a Jedi Knight to take on a Padawan. However, those assignments are made by the Jedi council, not the individual Knight (even an almost rebel warrior like Qui-Gon Jinn had to get council permission to take on the boy called Anakin – but would have defied their wishes if they had said no). So, it should be interesting to see how Lucas gets around the council’s distrust of Anakin and award him such a worthy task as training a novice.
You do make a good point about the need to shore up the Jedi ranks. This excuse was used by George in Volume 2 of the first Clone Wars animated series for making Anakin a Jedi Knight as quickly as they did, despite warnings from several of the council members that Obi Wan’s Padawan could not be fully trusted and wasn’t ready for the position of full Jedi Knight. (This was assumed in the 3rd film – Revenge of the Sith).
I wonder why he chose Ashoka. I know two letters are reversed, but one probably does not pick the name of a great figure in history by accident.
Ashoka the Great was an indian emperor who embraced Buddhist as the religion of his empire. He killed a great many people in expanding his empire, but then recanted his militaristic ways and preached nonviolence throughout his empire.
I just don’t see how he could have had a padawan, really. Even in III he still seemed to be under Obi Wan’s wing some. I guess his padawan must have died in the Clone Wars. Not that he seems at all to remember this or be shaken up by it.
