Marvel Previews for May 2008

Marvel Previews for May 2008

February 20, 2008 By Sam Sloan Leave a Comment

It’s the beginning of summer, and things are heating up as the Marvel U! SECRET INVASION enters month two. The Invaders suddenly find themselves in the present day, Greg Rucka returns to Marvel… and that’s just the tip of the currently melting iceberg!

Alex Ross returns to Marvel with the team-up 60 years in the making! AVENGERS/INVADERS #1 sees the WWII super team come face to face with the modern-day Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. How is this possible? What will be the Invaders’ reactions to a post-Civil War Marvel Universe? Tune in to find out the answers to these questions and more, courtesy of Alex Ross, Jim Krueger and Steve Sadowski.

Meanwhile, the Skrull infiltration kicks into high gear with SECRET INVASION #2. Unsure of who they can trust, the Avengers must figure out if Captain America is really back from the dead as Nick Fury gathers his new Howling Commandos in MIGHTY AVENGERS #13 and Spider-Man has a revelatory meeting with Ka-Zar in NEW AVENGERS #41!

2629new_storyimage3118595_thumb.jpgGUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY #1

What do a talking raccoon, a telepathic dog and “awesome” all have in common? They’re all key components of GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY #1, the new series spinning out of the apocalyptic events of ANNIHILATION: CONQUEST! With the universe in shambles, the Guardians band together to prevent another Annihilation war from occurring…but is there even a galaxy left for them to protect?

And back on Earth, May sees SKY DOLL #1 hit the stands, the first release in Marvel’s partnership with French publisher Soleil. The story follows Noa, a female android who exists only to serve her government. But when she manages to escape from her master, she begins to suspect that there may be more to her than meets the eye…

2629new_storyimage3118585_thumb.jpgDAREDEVIL #107

Writers Greg Rucka and Ed Brubaker reunite to co-pen the four-part “Other People’s Problems” beginning with DAREDEVIL #107. A Marvel villain sits on death row and Matt Murdock must prove the villain’s innocence in the crime he committed! After his grueling battle with Mr. Fear, will Matt be able to get it together enough to win the case?

Warren Ellis makes a return of sorts with new universal: Shock Front #1, picking up where the previous series left off. First there were only four individuals with super-human abilities: a Starbrand, a Nightmask, a Justice and a Cipher. Attacked by those who feared their potential, they’re about to discover that they may not be as alone in this universe as they thought.

2629new_storyimage3118525_thumb.jpgMARVEL 1985 #1

13-year-old Toby is just your average American boy… but when the most powerful super-villains in the Marvel Universe attempt to break into our world, Toby’s also the only one capable of stopping them! Writer Mark Millar and artist Tommy Lee Edwards bring you a story unlike any other in MARVEL 1985 #1.

Legendary X-MEN scribe Chris Claremont begins the mini-series you demanded he write with GENEXT #1! What if the X-Men had aged in real time? This series catches up with your favorite mutants and their children in the present day. Who is this new generation of gifted youngsters, and what’s happened to the X-Men we know and love? You’ll have to read to find out, True Believers!

2629new_storyimage3118606_thumb.jpgKING SIZE HULK #1

We talked about this in our story from Slice of SciFi staff reporter Michael Hickerson, and now here it is in the flesh — so to speak!

When the Hulk found out his new regular book would only be a puny 32-pages, he was not pleased. And as the saying goes, we won’t like him when he’s angry… so to placate our favorite gamma-irradiated hero-with-anger-management-issues, we’re bringing you KING SIZE HULK #1. Jeph Loeb teams with a gaggle of superstar artists including Art Adams and Frank Cho for stories too big to be told in the regular Hulk book!

Finally, in this month’s X-Men titles, the merry band of mutants is still no more…but that doesn’t stop them from getting into trouble nonetheless. While San Francisco is still experiencing the trip of the century as it’s reverted back to the ’60s in UNCANNY X-MEN #498, X-Factor must deal with a Middle East Side that’s burning in X-FACTOR #31. And what will happen when Wolverine finally catches up to Mystique in WOLVERINE #65? Aye-yi-yi, it’s a busy time to be a mutant!

Head over to the May catalog for the full list!
