“Superhero” Spoofs…well, Superheros

davidzucker.jpgDavid Zucker has spoofed everything from disaster movies to police movies to horror films. For his next project, the spoof-specialist behind such hits as “The Naked Gun” and “Scary Movie” franchises is taking aim at the superhero genre.

“Superhero Movie” is set to swing its way into theaters March 28th, taking aim at the spandex-clad hero franchises of the past several years. The spoof stars Drake Bell as a Dragonfly, who gets super powers after a bite from a genetically altered dragonfly. Also featured are Regina Hall and Tracy Morgan spoofing Halle Berry’s white-haired Storm and Patrick Stewart’s psychic Dr. Xavier from X-Men. And it wouldn’t be a Zucker-spoof without Leslie Nielsen who plays Bell’s uncle, à la Spider-Man’s Uncle Ben.

“It’s predominantly Spider-Man, but we satirize Batman Begins, X-Men, Fantastic Four, Superman, everything,” Zucker says. “It’s a spoof of the whole superhero genre, like we did with the Scary Movies, but this one probably has more of a unified plot, like the Naked Guns had.”

Standing in the hero’s way is Christopher McDonald as the villainous Hourglass.

“He’s dying of some rare disease, and he invents a machine where he can continue to live, as long as he kills a lot of people,” Zucker says. “The only one who can stop him is Dragonfly.”

Eh, I liked the first films of both those franchises (Naked Gun and Scary Movie), so if it’s like those I ought to enjoy it. If it’s like any of the sequels though, blecch.

I’ve about had it with spoof movies. They’re hardly ever funny, unless you’re a 6 year old boy and can laugh at fart jokes for an hour and a half.

Weird Al Yankovic is the only guy alive who still knows how to spoof well.

Oh, and Indiana Jim, of course.

    Fart.
