A New Venom Movie on the Horizon?

February 5, 2008 By Mike Hickerson 6 Comments

Fans who were disappointed by the low-amount of Venom screen-time in last summer’s “Spider-Man 3” will be happy to hear that the famous Spidey-foe could get his own feature film.

IESB reports that talks are underway to get the popular comic book character his own spin-off film and that “the studio” has met with several “A-list writers” about the project.

Which studio is “the studio” is a mystery given the rights to Venom on the big-screen are held either by Marvel or Sony Pictures. Marvel got the rights back from New Line a few years ago, but how much of those rights were given to Sony for the third installment of the Spidey-franchise are unclear. IESB speculates the rights are with Marvel, given that the studio signed a deal with the writer’s guild last month.

But whoever has the rights, it looks like Venom is headed back to the big-screen.

No word yet on if Topher Grace will reprise the role of Eddie Brock/Venom in the sequel. No time table for production has been announced nor are there any rumors of who would direct.

okay I am a bit confused. didn’t he get killed in the last spiderman? The movie was so bad I have been trying to forget it. But I seem to recall that happening.

This is sci-fi and Tim, as you know so well, nobody really dies in sci-fi. Just ask Spock. 😉

good point Sam. I am waiting for a movie villain’s last words to be, “I’ll get my revenge in the remake.” 🙂

There is Scorpion, Spidey’s villain that later turns into the new Venom. This Venom helps the Registration act in the Marvel Civil War. Becides a Venom turned good sort of happens whn he helps Spidey beat Carnage. his is totally doable. Maybe they could also set up a Thunderbolts movie.
