Humanoids on Mars?

January 23, 2008 By Sam Sloan 11 Comments

Is it a human-like statue, a woman from Mars or just a trick of Mars sunlight and shadows on the outcroppings? You decide. Here is your first look at an image spotted in a recent NASA photo from the Red Planet sent by the Spirit Rover.

And they say only amateur UFO enthusiasts take blurry pictures of the unknown!

Saw this before in my emailz. There MUST be life on Mars! Look at all the VEGETATION OUT IN THE DISTANCE!

I mean, people buy this picture? From NASA, eh? where’s the NASA claim on the photos, hmmm? Right. Nice try. Oh, look at the atmosphere with the overcast clouds… oh wait… NO ATMOSPHERE ON MARS!

    Holy crap.

Come on Jim! There is an atmosphere on Mars, it’s just thin…and yes, there are clouds on Mars, don’t you know anything about the red planet?

My personal belief is that it’s a statue, and I’m hoping that NASA is going to send the rover that way to check it out!

You should read up on the planet before comenting like that, Indiana Jim. Mars DOES have a very thin atmosphere, just enough to color the atmosphere. This from the planets Wikipedia entry:
“The atmosphere on Mars consists of 95% carbon dioxide, 3% nitrogen, 1.6% argon, and contains traces of oxygen and water.[1] The atmosphere is quite dusty, containing particulates about 1.5 µm in diameter which give the Martian sky a tawny color when seen from the surface.”

As for the figure itself, I have no doubt it’s complete bollocks. Just a trick of light and shadows.

Unfortunately the little guy would only be 4 inches tall, so I’m pretty sure he wouldn’t qualify as intelligent, anyway.

So that’s what you guys did with Tee Morris. Well at least he is out of the closet. ( Winging it reference.)

Since it is only a couple of inches tall, perhaps it should be called “Little Foot” instead! =-)

BTW – Jim, Mars does have clouds and weather. Just not what you are used too. In a decent amateur scope you can see clouds, hazing, and even the occational dust storms when they get big enough. I know I’ve seen that level of detail (and more) in my 10″ F/5 Reflector – no problem.

It’s just rocks and/or shadows, I’m sure, but it’s interesting. To even see it as well as we can, those cameras must have an extreme pixel count. The original shot looks like it’s a kilometer or two away!

There’s an awesome writeup about this at the Planetary Society’s blog:

No way man, it’s Bigfoot. Sasquatch is on Mars.
