Tim Russ Is Our Guest for Slice of SciFi Show #144 — Sat. Jan. 19

January 17, 2008 By Sam Sloan 1 Comment

tim_russ.jpgTim Russ joins us as our special guest on Slice of SciFi Show #144 this Saturday, January 19, 2008.

Tim starred as Commander Tuvok, the Vulcan security chief on the USS Voyager for 7 years. A native of Washington D.C., Tim grew up as a military brat in the 50’s and 60’s, which ended up serving him well as a model for being in Starfleet. He received a B.S. in Theater Arts from Saint Edwards University, then went on to Illinois State University to further his studies. His first gig was on the prestigious Masterpiece Theater on PBS, but it was the Star Trek franchise that would afford him his greatest success as, not only an actor, but director too. Tim’s latest venture is “Star Trek: Of Gods and Men,” a new web-based 3-part miniseries filled with Star Trek alum such as Trek icons Nichelle Nichols and Walter Koenig, as well as fellow Voyager cast mates Ethan Phillips and Garrett Wang, DS-9’s Chase Masterson, Alan Ruck of the big screen feature “Star Trek VI: Generations,” and many more from each of the different incarnations of Star Trek’s long 40-plus year legacy. Tim will talk with us about STOGM, which he directs and stars in. He can also be seen in the new speculative fiction sitcom “Samantha Who?” with Christina Applegate.

You can watch Part One of “Star Trek: Of Gods and Men” now.

In our News this week James Bond has his new Bond girl, as well as two new villains to deal with for “Bond 22.” Bill Gates is actually doing something his Microsoft company is not especially noted for…we tell you what that is. And one of the Wayan brothers has signed on for the new G.I. Joe film. We’ll tell you which one and what role he has landed.

Movie Talk is all about a new film that has a plot that sounds awfully like last year’s “Touristas.” Titled “The Ruins,” it too takes place in a jungle with a bunch of 20 to 30 somethings sticking their noses where they don’t belong.

Fox TV’s “New Amsterdam” hasn’t even debuted yet and already the network bosses have called for it to be moved from its proposed Friday night timeslot to another night and time. Our TV Talk segment gives you all the crusty details.

Leonard Nimoy dropped a bombshell on a recent local LA network television interview about the new Star Trek movie from JJ Abrams, which is due out on December 25, 2008. It has to do with Spock and it’s a real jaw-dropper.

We’ve got all the news, a ton of contests to tell you about, and a shout-out to get you to help get our friend Walter Koenig his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. That’s this Saturday, January 19 on Slice of SciFi Show #144. You can grab it with your favorite podcatcher, download it straight from our website or listen to it on Monday, January 21 on XM Satellite Radio’s The Sonic Channel. See you then!

NOTE: I know that last week I said “Journeyman” creator and producer Kevin Falls would be on this week’s show, however, we had to move him until next weekend to take advantage of Tim Russ being in the Phoenix area for this interview. Kevin will be here for our show #145 on January 26 — and as William Shatner use to say this time I “Promise!”
