Sarah’s Chronicles a Winner

January 15, 2008 By Sam Sloan 9 Comments

sarahconnorai6.jpgFox has itself a hit show. The only question that remains is — how long before they dump it?

This week’s premiere of “Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles” crushed all of its competition on Sunday and again last night for episode two of the new television series showcasing the Connors — Sarah, John and those terminating robots from the future. In fact the ratings were the highest for any new show over the last three years.

The most impressive thing about the program’s ratings is it appealed mostly to network’s and advertiser’s most important demographic, the 18-49 age group which gave the show an overall 18 share which equates to a 7.6 Nielsen rating. Those kinds of ratings measure out to a viewership amounting to over 18 million people sitting in front of their TV screens watching the show live. The numbers for the TiVO and DVR watchers is still filtering in but is expected to also break previous records for a debut show.

Of course it didn’t hurt it any for that demographic to have an NFL championship “division” playoff game as the show’s lead-in on Sunday night.

“What I’m looking at with the glass half full is strong numbers, the No. 1 premiere of the season,” stated Fox Entertainment chair Peter Liguori. “In terms of realistically looking forward, we’ll try to dig down as deep as possible to see what our expectations might be. From there we’ll see how we can grind it out week to week,” he said.

Okay, that would be NFL DIVISIONAL PLAYOFF game.

And I liked Comanche Moon better.

I quite enjoyed both nights of the premiere, though night two was definitely better.

One thing bugs me though. I know that John’s personality makes sense for who he is and all, but he’s downright obnoxious. Not Wesley Crusher level obnoxious, but damn close.

I like it. It was a little tough getting used to a brunette Sarah but the wife and I reconciled it by deciding she must have dyed her hair as part of being on the run.

Summer’s character is a little creepy since we don’t know exactly what’s going on with her. The terminator that scanned her came up with “Unknown Cyborg”. What is she? Where/when exactly did she come from? She’s being awfully vague. Plus it seems like she’s not quite up to the task of kicking the other terminator’s butts. She’s cute but tiny.

John seems to have regressed since T2. He’s more whiny and soft than I think he ought to be. He was so tough and together at the end of T2.

But for the show so far so good.

And since I like it it’s guaranteed to be canceled! Sorry guys.

They already have their hand on the chicken switch . . . lol.

The question is–was enough of an audience intrigued enough to stay around for the second episode and beyond?

Not to be pessimistic, but Bionic Woman also debuted to high numbers only to see them steadily decline…

Yeah, but by the second episode of Bionic Woman, I was saying to myself, “I anticipated this show THIS much?” I felt really let down.

The second ep of T:SCC “felt” better than Bionic Woman and shows more promise. I stuck around so long for Bionic Woman because I just “knew” that the show couldn’t really be that bad. Yeah. I was wrong. Katee Sackhoff was the only thing worth watching on that show.

I wonder where they are going to go with Summer’s charecter. If you listened it sounded like the future John talked to her alot or gave alot of information to her. And am I the only one who got the feeling that the present John was kind of flirting or attracted to her?

I think future John trained her to be appealing to present John. The only time she showed any personality was when she was talking to John at school.

I don’t think I ever actually watched a full Terminator movie, so I’m not really one to judge this show but I wasn’t really drawn much to the plot at all.
People on the run… violent fight scene breaks out… everyone runs away… repeat.
I think I’ll give it another episode or so before I lock in my opinion, but it doesn’t seem to be the show for me.
