On one of our past shows we did a story on the upcoming J.J. Abrams produced film with the codename “Cloverfield” and co-host Michael R. Mennenga speculated on whether or not moviegoers will actually get to see the monster. That same question was starting to get asked by a lot of people once the official trailer was released since the film is shot using a hand-held camcorder style video camera from the perspective of a group of young people attending a party.
Their party, as well as the entire city of New York, get ripped apart by this mega-monster that, in the trailer, is never seen but only heard. The monster’s vocal sounds reminds one of another famous monster – Godzilla.
Well, on whether or not the monster is seen in the film, fears of the latter have been laid to rest from “Cloverfield” director Matt Reeves. During his press junket to promote the movie he had this to say concerning the monster’s debut:
“People who have seen the trailer might think we are using this style to avoid seeing the monster, but that is definitely not what we’re doing. We’re using it to build dread and anticipation,” commented Reeves. “But in this movie, you do see a lot. At the end of the day, it still has that huge scale, it’s just that it’s shot from this point of view. So you’re going to see the monster, you’re going to see huge-scale destruction, you’re going to see a lot of crazy stuff!â€
“Cloverfied,” aka “01-18-08” will premiere in theaters on January 18, 2007.

Nice writeup Sam – wonder where you got your scoop from
