Mur Lafferty On Slice of SciFi Show #139

December 13, 2007 By Sam Sloan 11 Comments

s532420061_1266783_6421.jpgOur guest interview for this Saturday’s Slice of SciFi Show #139 is one of our own, Mur Lafferty. She is a writer and podcast producer, essayist and author of role-playing-games. Never without an idea, Mur has been podcasting her essays to an ever growing audience since December, 2004.

As a freelance writer she began her career writing for White Wolf and other role playing game companies. Eventually her expertise grew to include writing about games for publications like Scrye, Knights of the Dinner Table, Anime Insider, Games Quarterly, and The Escapist.

Mur got her feet wet in podcasting with the her popular show called “Geek Fu Action Grip,” which she has recently put on hold to further pursue her writing career, motherhood and another popular show titled “I Should Be Writing,” a podcast designed to allow her to share her experiences as a struggling fiction writer to those out there in the podisphere who may be feeling all alone. She has also edited and published “Voices: New Media Fiction” through podiobooks.com. This anthology of short fiction is podcasted by various writers, and has featured such authors and creators as James Patrick Kelly, and Cory Doctorow.

Mur Lafferty will bring her multifaceted career and point of view to Slice of SciFi and give our fans a glimpse of the brillance we here simply call “Mur.”

On the rest of the show we’ll tackle the political entanglements surrounding China’s decision to lock out all American films from its borders, then move on to less troublesome issues, such as an update on Bryan Temmer’s success in getting his Alien Theme Park off the ground and the Dark Horse Comics announcement concerning “Serenity — Better Days.”

Movie Talk takes a look at Japan’s answer to “Planet Terror,” with a film titled “The Machine Girl,” and Mummy 3 literally wrapped up production on its next film in that franchise.

We have an official statement from the Lifetime Network concerning the fate of “Blood Ties,” for our TV Talk segment, as well as the latest on the new TV offering from J.J. Abrams called “Fringe.”

The Future will come as no surprise to Nicholas Cage since he is all “Knowing” and Will Smith dons the tights of a disgruntled and hard-living superhero trying his best to repair his damaged reputation in next year’s action-fantasy titled “Hancock.”

As the world gets ready for the end of year holidays and we wind down the old 2007 Slice of SciFi calender, be sure to join us as we talk to the always fun and informative Mur Lafferty and bring you all the latest news and talk in the SF entertainment world. Join us this Saturday, December 15, 2007 for Slice of SciFi Show #139. Our XM Satellite Radio listeners can catch the show this Monday, December 17, 2007 on The Sonic Channel. See you all then.

The Blood Ties news is mostly the same information that has been posted to various websites, and emailed back to all of the fans who asked (including us).

    But I’m working on a little more…

Please share – any information regarding Blood Ties would be appreciated, no matter how bad. At least then we’d know instead of being left hanging over the cliff by a thread.

Thanks you three, for the news, scant that it is. I won’t, however, keep tuning to LT or any of its affiliates until Feb. when I’ll HAVE to to record the episodes, especially the last two for friends of mine who were unable to watch it online.

Scant though it was, it is all there is. Lifetime is still being mum on if they will show a third season or not.
