Director/producer/writer Steven Spielberg will be honored at next year’s 65th Annual Golden Globe Awards with the prestigious Cecil B. DeMille Award for his “outstanding contribution to the entertainment field.” This is the highest honor that the Golden Globe committee can bestow on someone in the entertainment industry.
Spielberg, now 60, has achieved in one short 40 year span what most in the industry never attain, the pinnacle of success.
That pinnacle was reached with such amazing films and TV productions as “Schindler’s List,” “Saving Private Ryan,” “Close Encounters of the Third Kind,” “E.T. the Extraterrestrial,” “Jurassic Park” “Band of Brothers” and “Jaws,” just to name a few. Many would love to have just one or two films of that caliber in their entire career, and the legendary director still has many creative years ahead of him. In fact, he is currently in the post production on the film “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull,” which is set for a May 22, 2008 release.
The award also takes into account the director’s many philanthrophic endeavors in his work for the environment, animal and human rights and with the last remaining holocaust survivors. Spielberg is tireless in ensuring that one of the worst atrocities against humanity is never forgotten after the last generation of survivor’s passes on.
The Cecil B. DeMille will be one more award to add to his trophy case that includes two Golden Globes, eight Emmy Awards, three Academy Awards and the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award for lifetime achievement, as well as career-honoring awards from the Directors Guild of America, the American Film Institute and the Kennedy Center.
The nominations for the 2008 Golden Globes will be announced on December 13th. The ceremony will air live on NBC January 13, 2008.
