Is this the new face of Superman? If Dark Horizon’s is correct in its assessment, then yes. According to the website that has a pretty fair track record for seeing rumor turn to fact, the baby-faced Brit named Rupert Evans (“Hellboy”) will be wearing the cap and tights as the younger-looking Man of Steel for the new “Justice League” flick, due to be in theaters sometime before Routh returns as the “actual” Man of Steel in Bryan Singer’s next major superhero flick for Warner Bros. and DC Comics Films.
It came as no surprise when the SCI FI Channel announced today that it has renewed “Stargate: Atlantis” for a fifth season. What did take our breath away is the chance that Amanda Tapping (Colonel Samantha Carter) hasn’t been ruled-out for a possible return either as a regular or semi-regular for the next season. Her contract is due to expire after the close of season four, so if this rumor pans out, that will make for an interesting scenario on Atlantis Station.
“Faintheart,” from director Vito Rocco, is being touted as the very first ever successful, major-budgeted “user-generated feature film.”
Rocco began shooting this week in the U.K. on the $2 million (USD) MySpace film that will star headliners Eddie Marsan (“MI:III,” “V for Vendetta,” “The Illusionist”) and Ewan Bremner (“AVP: Alien vrs Predator,” “The Lost Room”) with a supporting cast that includes Paul Nicholls, Bronagh Gallagher, Anne Reid, Tim Healy and Jessica (Stevenson) Hynes.
The U.K. Film Council Premiere Fund has coughed-up $650,000 toward production costs in which the MySpace community was allowed some major input into the film’s initial development with some minor roles given out to MySpace members.
Hollywood got hit with shut-downs and set-backs in both movie and television production this week as the horrendous runaway fires in Southern California continued destroying everything in their paths. Homes, forests, studios along with sets have been devastated by the flames and on location shooting for many current TV and film projects have been curtailed until later. This, along with a writer’s strike next month is just another nail in the coffin of the 2008-2009 entertainment season.
Leonard Nimoy, who once proclaimed he was fully retired from acting so he could dedicate himself totally to his award-winning photography, has been lured back in front of a camera after a long absence to play his most known and beloved role of Mr. Spock for the new Star Trek movie. Recently he was asked why he would come out of retirement now, when in times past he refused to do so, even for another Trek project. His answer ought to give encouragement to fans who have been a bit leary about this next Star Trek film. Leonard said he could sum up his decision to come back to Trek in one word — “Abrams!”
The legendary 76-year old performer told The Jewish Chronicle that director J.J. Abrams and his writing team of Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman have “come up with a strong idea,” one that tweaked his interest enough to put away his golf shoes for a while. That is saying something as Nimoy has been adamant in the past about not returning to acting unless the project was enough to knock him off his feet. For him to return for this new Star Trek film says volumes about its script being one that just may be what the franchise and fans have been desiring for a long time now.
And finally, closing out these briefs on a very positive note — “The Dresden Files” are rated number one on the Hey! Nielsen: Ratings. Hey SCI FI, Hey Nielsen says HELLO!

Atlantis has really become so much better since the cancellation of SG1.
I guess having the same five writers do twenty episodes instead of forty really allows them to fully polish each.

Awesome news about the fifth season renewal for Stargate Atlantis. Season four has rocked so far, and Amanda Tapping and Jewel Staite have fit in well as the new cast members.
