“Transformers” not only took the theatrical box office by storm this summer, now it has also become the fastest selling DVD of the year, according to Variety.
Paramount Home Entertainment says that it has sold more than 8.3 million “Transformers” DVD’s in the film’s first week on store shelves soaring past other record-setters such as Zack Snyder’s “300,” the Ben Stiller/Robin Williams flick “Night at the Museum” and the hot animated feature “Happy Feet.”
Despite Michael Bay’s earlier harangue against Paramount’s decision to offer “Transformers” exclusively on HD-DVD and not Blue-ray, the sales of the film on HD-DVD are also doing quite well with nearly 200,000 units sold this week in that format.
The total number of conventional and HD-DVD sales combined in the first week alone account for more than 4.5 million “Transformers” DVD’s sold.
