Fall Is In the Air

October 22, 2007 By Sam Sloan Leave a Comment

Whether it was the hint of fall in the air this weekend, the horrendous fires in California, or the desire to hit yourself in the head with a skillet over the crazy college football outcome on Saturday……whatever the reason, this weekend’s box office was skimpy and lackluster.

Leading the pack was the new vampire chiller that has been getting rave reviews, “30 Days of Night,” however, it barely logged in $16 million over its 3-day premiere in the U.S. with its competitors showing even less impressive numbers.

Number 2 was the new Perry flick called “Tyler Perry’s Why Did I Get Married?” with only $12.1 million in its purse. Do everyone a favor and stay away or you will be asking yourself “why did I waste my money and 2-hours of my life on this?”

The Rock’s Disney feature “The Game Plan” continued in the top grossers by adding another $8.1 million to its coffers, bringing its four-week total to around $69 million. George Clooney was next with the legal thriller “Michael Clayton” followed by Ben Affleck’s critically-loved directorial film “Gone Baby Gone” starring Ben’s little brother Casey. This is one I highly recommend everyone see. It should have done at least 2nd at the B.O., not a dismal 5th.

We will have the full Top Ten Weekend U.S. totals for you later this week.
