Universal Pictures has tapped Will Ferrell to star in…..get ready for it……a big screen version of Sid & Marty Krofft’s “Land of the Lost.”
Sources claim that this is one project that Ferrell has been wanting to be involved in for years and has pushed for it behind the scenes.
One thing that Ferrell may be disappointed in is his budget for the movie has been drastically cut from $125 million to $100 million because of the financial bashing the studio took with their film “Evan Almighty.”
Directing Ferrell in the effort to try and capture the TV skein on the big screen will be Brad Silberling. His most recent film dealing with both drama and comedy was the Jim Carrey 2004 film “Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events.”
The Krofft business enterprise will be involved with the project with its producers Julie Wixson-Darmody and Daniel Lupi.
Screenwriters Chris Henchy and Dennis McNicholas will adapt the script for film about a disgraced paleontologist (Ferrell), his assistant and tour guide who find themselves in the Lost World of prehistoric creatures, monkey people and a group of retilians called Sleestaks.
Production is set to get underway soon so that much of the principal filming can get done before the expected writer’s strike.

I’m pretty sure they were called Sleestaks with a “s” so that it sounded like slee-stacks (not slee-tacks). They used to scare me to death when I was a kid.

How apropo seeing as he played Marshall Willenholly in Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back (best role he’s had to date IMHO, though to be fair, I haven’t seen eiehter Melinda & Melinda or Stranger Than Ficiton yet).
Rhettro says
So now the question becomes, “CGI or hand puppets?”
Thomas says
I guess Adam Sandler was busy…
My bet Rhettro, hand puppets.
