Is Vogel the Next Kirk?

September 28, 2007 By Sam Sloan 3 Comments

vogel.jpgIf Robert Sanchez from IESB.net is correct then actor Mike Vogel (“Poseidon,” “Texas Chainsaw Massacre”), who will also be seen in the upcoming JJ Abrams titless film Codname: Cloverfield aka 01-18-08, will be the next James T. Kirk.

IESB contacted Vogel’s agent after beginning to hear a lot of chatter about the young actor being at the top of JJ Abrams’ list of candidates for the lead Star Trek character that made William Shatner a household name over 40 years ago.

Paramount is officially denying the rumor, JJ Abrams isn’t making any comment one way or the other and the Vogel’s agency only issued the standard “can’t officially comment at this time” statement.

I agree. While Quinto will probably do a fine job pulling off Spock, especially with Nimoy right there on the set to help the young star get into the character, there is only one Shat. The only other actor I like as Kirk has been James Cawley of New Voyages, he pulls it off pretty well. but let’s all be honest, for the next several years, until the last three generations die off — SHAT is KIRK!

It’s a tough job for anyone to pull off. I don’t know this guy so I can’t really comment if he has a chance to do it right.
