Another TV Remake Coming: Knight Rider

September 27, 2007 By S. K. Sloan 7 Comments

Remaking classics and not-so-classic entertainment doesn’t just occur in movies. It is happening a lot lately for television productions as well.

We have seen the return of “Battlestar Galactica” and the “Bionic Woman,” for example. Now NBC is looking to bring back “Knight Rider” to the small screen.

real-kitt-start-scene-754563.jpgThe old TV story about a man and his talking car out there fighting crime is already under development for a big screen movie feature. With the success of “Transformers” in theatrical release, NBC is hoping to rework “Knight Rider” into a Transformer-esque skein, which will be a total reimagining from the original 1980’s show which starred David Hasselhoff as Michael Knight and Emmy winning actor William Daniels providing the voice for K.I.T.T..

While we’re on the subject of “Transformers,” the next film is due out in 2009. “Transformers 2” will be directed, once again, by Michael Bay.

Doug Liman, executive producer of the highly successful “Bourne” films and who has seen success on television with such shows as “The O.C.” and “Heist,” is set to produce “Knight Rider.” Liman will also be directing the big screen flick “Jumper,” starring Samuel L. Jackson and Hayden Christensen. Screenwiriter Dave Andron (“Raines”) will pen the script for several episodes, including the proposed pilot.

Like “Battlestar Galactica,” Glen Larson is the creator of the original “Knight Rider” series for Universal Television.

I guess we shouldn’t be surprised. This is Hollywood after all, and if one good idea comes up (re-imagine of BSG) then troll through your entire collection of sci-fi ish stuff and make it darker and it’ll be an instant success.

This show will work to the younger kids and the fella like me in the early 30’s who grew up watching this show.

Four very important things are need to make this show a success.
    1. Black Trans AM
    2. William Daniels
    3. David Hasselhoff in some form, be it as the Role of Devon or something
    4. Glen A Larson…
if they can get all those guys to come on board this show will be a hit….Hell let’s bring back Airwolf..

Hey this ought to be pretty good considering the success of some remakes. I’d like to see a continuation though, not a remake. New driver, new car, but a hot scientist just like Bonnie.

Oh and dont knock the idea of Small Wonder! Disney would do killer job with that.
