“Bourne” Still Big

September 24, 2007 By Sam Sloan Leave a Comment

thebourneultimatum.JPGYou may not have been hearing much about Matt Damon’s final film in the Bourne franchise since it has run its course here in American, but overseas “The Bourne Ultimatum” is still breaking all kinds of box office records.

The film continued to dominate the international B.O. with another $13 million (USD) added to its bloating profit margin. It has well surpassed “The Simpsons,” the expected international winner. After this weekend Bourne’s gross take of $144 million (USD), the third film looks like it could single-handedly surpass the combined totals of its two predecessors, “The Bourne Identity” and “The Bourne Supremacy” in the international market. Those two films together grossed $204 million internationally according to statistics released by Variety.

“Ultimatum” has also kept up the year’s record-setting momentum compared with a year ago when “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest” led with a relatively quiet $7.6 million.

Other genre-related films showing spark overseas are “Evan Almighty” and the Disney animated tale “Ratatouille.” This film’s reception on the international market is as impressive as it was in the U.S. domestic one. So far, “Ratatouille” has taken in $214.5 million (USD) internationally with the movie yet to be seen in the huge market-place of the U.K. and Germany.

“Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer” is still holding its own overseas, as is “Stardust.”

“Resident Evil: Extinction” opened big this weekend in the United States. It was #1 at the box office, however, it was also released in Mexico on Friday and it scored even better in that country.
