Mark Lund Is Our Guest for Slice of SciFi Show #127

September 20, 2007 By Sam Sloan Leave a Comment

lund.jpgMark Lund is a television personality, producer and former publisher of several magazines as well as a published author. Lund is perhaps best known as one of the three judges on FOX’s “Skating with Celebrities” that aired in 2006 to great ratings and abundant attention. Lund shared the judging panel with Olympic Champion Dorothy Hamill and veteran coach John Nicks.

While serving as a figure skating analyst for CNN during the 2002 Olympic Winter Games in Salt Lake City, Lund was one of the first reporters to identify French judge Marie-Reine Le Gougne as the center of the judging controversy in the pair competition.

An avid fan of science fiction and enthusiastic supporter of the exploration of space, in 2006 Lund wrote a feature-length screenplay in the sci-fi/drama genre titled “First World.” The premise behind “First World” commences in the 1960’s when NASA discovers a vast and advanced civilization in the Sea of Tranquility on the Moon. Up until that time, this civilization had been shielded from all Earth-based detection devices and was not visible to the naked eye or through Earth-based telescopes. During the Apollo missions, false images were transmitted and a worldwide cover-up began. “First World” begins in the year 2018 when the Chinese government announces it is sending its first manned mission to the Moon. What does this civilization represent and why was it covered up?

To bring “First World” to life, along with his efforts to secure funding for the long version, Lund condensed his screenplay and produced a 2 minute trailer and 25 minute short film, both of which may be viewed at www.myspace.com/firstworldmovie. The short is presently being screened at numerous science fiction conventions in the United States.

Today, Lund, who resides in Los Angeles, continues his work on “First World” and is our guest for this week’s Slice of SciFi.

Also on the show is news about William Shatner’s video blog ShatnerVision, Jay Mohr’s future on “Ghost Whisperer” and children’s entertainment guru Jordon Kerner.

Movie and TV Talk is all about DVD releases that collectors will want to have. Some are real classics and some could be total bombs. Also this reminder — Next week most of the new sci-fi and genre-related shows will begin, as well as some old favorites return. Be sure to watch to let the networks know that sci-fi is what audiences want to see in primetime.

The Slice of SciFi crystal ball gets focused on the lovely eyes of the beautiful Jessica Alba as she takes on her knew horror/thriller “The Eye.”

We are still running “The Film Crew” DVD contest and will have news about two new contests coming up one week from Saturday, so be sure to listen in.

Slice of SciFi Show #127 will be ready for download this Saturday, September 22. You can also hear the program on XM-Satellite Radio and on KVON-FM in the Napa Valley, California.

See you Saturday!
