Atlantis Studios of Suwanee, GA, will turn a winning script into a professionally made 64-page graphic novel under a new $10,000 Atlantis Studios Prize in the Screenplay Competition of the Screenwriting Expo, the two companies announced.

Atlantis Studios will choose a screenplay from contest entrants’ scripts and cover all costs of adapting it into a full-color, professional quality 64-page graphic novel for commercial distribution. The writer will select his or her art team from Atlantis’ stable of more than 60 artists and will receive a complete printer-ready comic within a year. The winner of the prize will also retain all rights to the graphic novel. Atlantis will assist in marketing the graphic novel, giving it exposure on a custom-designed Website.

“We will develop an exclusive preview Website, and will consult with the winner to develop a business plan that will maximize profit, royalty, and licensing revenue for the winning creator,” said James Watson, president of Atlantis Studios, Inc.

“We are extremely pleased that Atlantis Studios is offering this prize,” said Bill Donovan, publisher of Creative Screenwriting Magazine, which holds the annual Screenwriting Expo and its Screenplay Competition. It is a big improvement over last year’s Expo comic book production deal because Atlantis gives the writer a choice of artists and even more important, marketing services. In addition, the fact that the writer gets to keep the rights to the resulting professionally-made graphic novel is a huge benefit to the author.”

“We are pleased to be able to bring a writer together with a company of the vision, artistic strength, and marketing capabilities of Atlantis Studios,” Donovan said.

Atlantis Studios has over 10 years of experience in the production and distribution of comics and graphic novels based on licensed properties. In December 2006, Atlantis Studios was selected to produce the 96-page official graphic novel adaptation of “The Librarian: Return to King Solomon’s Mines” for Dean Devlin’s Electric Entertainment and TNT Original Pictures.

Also in its 6th year, the Expo Screenplay Competition has grown to be one of the most bountiful screenwriting contests in the world. It awards more than $35,000 in cash and more than $65,000in other prizes and productions.
