Everyone who works for Torchwood is young, all are under 35. Some say that’s because what they’re doing is a new science, others say it’s because they die young…but why?
The team, led by the enigmatic, ever-watchful Captain Jack Harkness (John Barrowman, “Doctor Who,” “De-Lovely”), uses scavenged alien technology to solve present day crime – both alien and human. They’re separate from the government, working outside the police and beyond the United Nations.
From an underground base built on a rift in time and space, Torchwood sets its own rules, delving into the unknown and fighting the impossible whether it is responding to an alien threat, sightings of extra-terrestrial technology, an unusual autopsy report, or the spread of a deadly alien virus.
Part “The X-Files,” part “Angel,” Torchwood is the team we’d all love to be part of, where excitement comes before morality and the rules are made as you go along.
Season One of the series will also make its debut in high definition this fall on HD-Net.

I don’t get BBC America. Which flight is the best one?

My cable company doesn’t have BBC America or HD-Net. Lame. Not that it matters, I’ve seen very high-quality HD versions (720p) of this show on bittorent just hours after they originally aired in the UK. I really liked this show and glad to hear it’s coming back for a second season.

Torchwood is good, cutting-edge scifi TV. Self-contained episodes, but with an overall (extremely mysterious) story-arc. There are a few episodes that disappointed me, but in general it’s excellent.
I’ve blogged about Torchwood here:

(There are sexually explicit scenes in the first episode. I’d be interested to know how much of that makes it through to US TV screens.)

(Also, I notice Torchwood will be repeated on BBC3 here in the UK, starting next Friday.)

The HDNet premiere is Sept 17.

I “took a flight” over the UK and have the first season.
As much as I love Doctor Who, I’m really feeling Torchwood.
I mean, how can you not like a sci-fi drama for us grown-ups?
Um…Tim, maybe you should pre-screen the show and decide if you think it’s OK for Darcy. There are ‘adult situations and language’. I thought I read somewhere that it would be edited to fit into the time slot, but I don’t know if it’ll be edited for content as well…which I, personally, think would be a shame.
Anyway, this is just a suggestion just in case you might want to leave the Doctor Who viewing for the both of you, and Torchwood for when she’s not around.
Enjoy!!
