SciFi Friday Tonight – 1 out of 3

August 17, 2007 By Sam Sloan 10 Comments

At least the Doctor is on first. You can watch it and then put the channel surfer on Speed Dial!

Hey! 😛 Painkiller Jane is not terrible, despite what the being canceled might suggest. Not even in the same -league- as Flash.

I watch it too — but let’s be honest, Doctor Who, Heroes, BSG, Stargate, The 4400, Dead Zone, Ghost Whisperer, Eureka — it’s not! It’s not Flash Gordon either, but it comes pretty damn close at times. 😉

I’ve never seen Painkiller Jane. It took me five different sittings to get through the pilot of Flash Gordon, which is a bad sign. I hope the second episode is better. I’m quitting if that one isn’t good.

I thought I was the only one who stopped my DVR 4 times, while watching flash. It took me 3 days to finish the episode. Wow, now I get it, it was that bad.

Watching Flash I kept thinking, were is Jerry O’Connel…and why do they only slide between 2 worlds?

Okay. Rgith off the bat I will tell you that Flash Gordon does in fact suck (at least ep 1). I was raised on the 80’s flash gordon and that is my ideal. That being said, I think we need to give it some semblance of a chance. I did not like the BSG pilot and that show turned into an amazing piece of work. Let’s just give it a couple of episodes and maybe something will come of it.

I have to say, the only reason I began to watch and enjoy Doctor Who was because of its companion documentary show, “Doctor Who Confidential.” Naturally, “Confidential” doesn’t air here in the U.S. so I was lucky to find –ahem– a way of seeing them. “Confidential” made enjoying the new series so much better. I still find the old Doctor Who series pretty much unwatchable, but the this new series is great, for the most part. The Moffat written episodes are really standouts. This season’s 2-parter, “Human Nature” & “Family of Blood” was excellent. I also really enjoyed Torchwood even though my cable system doesn’t have BBC America. Looking forward to more Doctor Who.

And the ironic thing? This episode of Doctor Who was probably my least favourite of the third series (written by Chris Chibnall, of the craptacular Torchwood).

From the Flash Gordon pilot I was hooked and usually thats just the pilot but the second episode was pretty good. I’m very surprised to see the show moving quickly because I was sure they were going to be on earth for a few more episode but to my surprise we got some good stuff on Mongo about their socity and it looks like next week our hero’s will be back. So to spite what so many others say I love this new Flash Gordon!
