This weekend at the big Star Trek convention in Las Vegas, Star Trek icons William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy appeared on stage together and had fun ribbing each other. Bill especially enjoyed taking on Leonard for getting a role in the next Star Trek big screen movie and not politicking him a spot in the film. It was all in good fun though and it was also great seeing these two back on stage again. Shatner and Nimoy have been appearing together over the past year on stage as much as possible, but with the 40th Anniversay Celebration for the Star Trek franchise finally at an end, this could be the last time fans will ever get to see these two mega-stars in one place at one time. You can catch all the details of this historic Shatner/Nimoy event at StarTrek.com.
Speaking of Leonard Nimoy, he will begin shooting his scenes for the JJ Abrams take on Star Trek beginning this November. In a press interview during the Las Vegas CON, the actor informed the reporters there that his appearance in the film will be nothing “gigantic,” but “It’s more than a cameo.”
SCI FI Channel has announced that it has axed the Kristanna Loken produced SCI FI Friday show “Painkiller Jane.” Loken also starred as the main character about a special government agent that cannot die, but can feel all the pain inflicted on her. The television show was loosely based on the popular comic book heroine.
Despite my scathing review of “Flash Gordon” which, I might add, was a common view held by most critics, the new SCI FI Friday entry has scored the best series premiere numbers so far this year for the cable network. The question is — Now that the fans have seen how awlful the pilot episode was, will those numbers hold up over the next several weeks?
The guy in charge behind the camera for the Bruce Willis hit “Live Free or Die Hard,” director Len Wiseman, has now taken on the monumental task of helming the New Line remake of John Carpenter’s “Escape From New York.” Ken Nolan, the scribe behind “Black Hawk Down” and brother to actor Matt Nolan, who starred in Carpenters “Ghosts of Mars,” will pen the script. “300” star Gerard Butler won the role of Snake Pliskin, a movie character made into an icon by Kurt Russell in the original 1981 film. Everyone is wondering if a cameo by Russell is in the offing for this film due in theaters sometime in 2009.
