Rush Hour 3 Mows Down Competition

August 12, 2007 By S. K. Sloan 2 Comments

While the movie is, for the most part, being trashed by critics, the fans of the Rush Hour franchise are showing they still can’t get enough of the teaming up of Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker.

Their first two Rush Hour ventures together were overwhelming box office successes and this third film looks like it will even do better. Seems like the movie going crowd aren’t concerned about the future of the stock market because they just spent over $50 million in the U.S. alone to go see the flick this weekend, and there are still several hours to go before the weekend box offices close.

Coming in second is the Matt Damon camera-shaking heart-stopper “The Bourne Ultimatum.” Over the last two weekends it has managed to collect over $132 million in ticket sales.

“The Simpsons Movie” manages to hang on to third and the new fantasy flick, “Stardust,” that has everyone talking, debuted at number four grossing a little over $9 million so far. Not the best take for a genre film of this caliber and one that features such huge box office draws like Robert De Niro, Michelle Pfieffer and Claire Danes, but still impressive enough considering that Fox spent very little on advance advertising of this film, which still baffles me because it is a really good movie.

Rounding out the top five films is “Underdog,” the Disney/Buena Vista live-action flick about the famous cartoon dog with super powers.

Look for the entire Weekend Top Ten on Slice of SciFi later in the week.

Maybe word of mouth will generate some better traffic for Stardust.

I did notice that in my area, it was only scheduled on one screen at most theaters while Rush Hour 3 was on at least two or three screens.

    I certainly hope so, Michael.

I’ve definately been chatting it up to anyone who will listen!
