More Classic “Who” Coming To DVD

Fans of the good Doctor in the United States rejoice–there are more classic adventures of the universe’s most famous Time Lord headed our way on DVD.

November 6 will see the release of “Time-Flight” and “Arc of Infinity” on DVD in the United States, according to TV Shows on DVD.

“Time-Flight” is a much-maligned story from the end of season 19 featuring the fifth Doctor, Tegan and Nyssa looking into the disappearance of a Concord jet. The investigation takes them back in time to primitive Earth where the Doctor discovers an old nemesis is behind the whole nefarious plot.

“Arc of Infinity” is the first story of the show’s 20th anniversary season and features a return visit to Gallifrey by the Doctor and Nyssa. It also features the return of an old villian from the series’ tenth annivesary special. But “Arc of Infinity” is probably most noteable for featuring a future-Doctor in a guest-role. Colin Baker guest stars as Maxil and it was his performance in this story that caught the notice of producer John-Nathan Turner and lead to Baker’s landing the role of the Doctor when Davison left. The commentary for the episode is scheduled to include both Colin Baker and Peter Davison, marking the first time two Doctors have done a commentary track together.

The releases will mirror those of their British counterparts. These story stories are being released as a box-set in the UK called “Tegan’s Tales.” No word yet on if these two stories will be a box-set in the United States.

American fans can also look forward to the relase of “Robot” and “Survival” in August.

The BBC has announced a number of other classic series titles that will come out in the UK in the next several months including “The Time Warrior” and “Planet of Evil.” These stories should cross the pond to the United States in early 2008.

“Time-Flight” was stupid. I’m sorry if that annoys anyone, but there it is.
