On this week’s Slice of SciFi Show (#116), our guest is director/screenwriter Nick Ryan.
Nick hails from Dublin, Ireland and works with Image Now Films, one of Europe’s premiere houses. Nick’s experience ranges from directing commercials (over 60 to-date), writing and overseeing promotionals, directing and screenwriting short films and documentary work. His creations in film and television have been seen throughout Europe, and thanks to the Internet, the rest of the world is now beginning to enjoy Nick’s unique talent.
Two of his most popular short films include “Are We Alone?” — which examines the question (in a way that will catch you off guard)…are we alone in the universe?
“A Lonely Sky” is a unique short film starring “2001: Space Odyssey” and “2010” actor Kier Dullea and Paudge Behan who appeared in the feature film “Veronica Guerin”. This fascinating film is set in 1947 and revolves around a test pilot who is willing to risk his life to break the sound barrier.
In the News:
We’re talking zombies with the launching of the new “Dead Air” Website for the upcoming zombie flick written by Kenny Yakkel and directed by Corbin Bernsen. We ask an interesting question — what ever happen to the Richard Kelly film “Southland,” which was to star Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson? Warner Bros. Pictures and director Zack Snyder have put out the casting call for anyone who looks like certain famous people from the 1940’s, 50’s and 60’s (some who are still alive today), all to make appearances in the new “Watchmen” movie.
Movie Talk:
Executive producer James Cawley has announced the release date for the highly anticipated New Voyages flick “World Enough and Time,” starring Mr. Sulu himself, George Takei. This production will get a real send off — its own LIVE premiere with George and crew in Beverly Hills, California. We have all the details for you.
Special Segment:
We plan on bringing you another round of Slice of Trivia from clip-master Doug Kress that should make you go – hmmmmm!
TV Talk:
We talk a bit about SCI FI Channel’s different, and what some are calling bizarre, look at the updated re-imaging of the classic Wizard of Oz tale in this new miniseries due out in December 2007 called “Tin Man.”
Future Talk:
We hired a Norse fortune teller to glimpse the future and give us the skinny on the new James Caviezel film called “Outlander.” Jim is an alien who crash lands on Earth during the time of the Viking kings and he wasn’t alone in his spacecraft. What escapes after the crash landing brings terror and death to the humans forcing Caviezel to forge an alliance with the Vikings to bring down the predator.
We also take a brief look at “Amazon,” the story about a gladiatrix portrayed by Scarlett Johansson.
Outlander is due by Christmas 2007 — “Amazon,” sometime in 2008.
Remember our new day for regular show releases is now on Saturday. The Slice of SciFi Voicemail show is released for download the day before on Friday. See you on the Net, XM-Satellite or, for you West Coasters, on KVON-FM.
