The Oscar Scott Card novel “Empire” has been optioned for the big screen by Warner Bros. and Joel Silver’s production company Silver Pictures.
“Empire” has a near future setting in which the United States has been thrown into utter chaos with the assassination of the both the President and Vice President. America dives headlong into unrest which leads to a civil war. A team of secret operatives have been given the task of unraveling the underground conspiracy and saving the nation.
Card’s older and more well know work, “Ender’s Game” is also being developed by Warner Bros. with the famous Wolfgang Peterson directing.
Oren Moverman (“I’m Not There”) will adapt “Empire” with pre-production set to begin soon.

It’s Orson Scott Card, not Oscar. http://www.hatrack.com for confirmation.

They need to get cracking on Ender’s Game before they try anything else Card has done.

Anybody who read the book knows it was intended first as a screenplay. It is not Card’s strongest work. As a matter of fact, on many levels, it’s his weakest. If this dog is made first I fear it will delay “Enders Game” even further because it will be a failure, and Hollywood will see Card as a non-viable property.
