In an attempt to turn every successful video-game franchise into a big-screen film, 20th Century FOX has acquired the rights to produce a big-screen adaptation of “The Sims.”
“The Sims” is the best-selling game in PC history from Electronic Arts. Players create their own characters and family units and then oversee the day to day existence of their characters, from things such as getting a job, keeping them happy and fed as well as rested and in good spirits.
“The Sims” will be a live-action feature, according to reports in Variety.
Steve Asbell is overseeing the project for Fox with SIMS Studio head Rod Humble managing the creative property for Electronic Arts. Brian Lynch will script; story is under wraps with talent yet to be named.
“‘The SIMS has done an interactive version of an old story, which is what it’s like to have infinite power and how do you deal with it,” said Humble. “Given that that’s an old story, you can imagine how easily that would translate to traditional story telling.”
Davis’ most recent projects include “Norbit,” “When A Stranger Calls,” and “Eragon.”
Lynch scripted and helmed upcoming “Big Helium Dog,” and penned “Scary Movie 3,” and is managed by Benderspink.

Sounds like a project for Uwe Boll.

Lynch actually only wrote part of Scary Movie 3. He also happens to be a bit of a jerk sometimes (yes, I know him). Maybe if he stopped wrokign on movies he could get Monkey Man 2-D finished.

Are you kidding.
This is TEH_GHEY! for realz.

How about the Monkey Island Franchise. That could be A LOT more interesting as a movie than The Sims, and there is already a story there. There is no story to the Sims, what the frick are they thinking?
Jagermann says
What a retarded thing to make a movie about. The only reason people play the sims is because they have control over the story. If it was already set than it would be a soap opera.
Sam says
Might be cool is it included SIM Zombies. 😉

Myst cured me of wanting to play any game where I didn’t get to shot, stab, or blow something up.
