Famed producer Dino De Laurentiis has put together a very talented team to bring his vision of “Barbarella” back to the big screen. “Grindhouse – Planet Terror” and “Sin City” director Robert Rodriquez will helm the remake from a script penned by “Casino Royale” screenwriters Neal Purvis and Robert Wade.
“In our vision, the future is female, and I can’t wait to introduce ‘Barbarella’ to a new generation of moviegoers,” stated De Laurentiis.
“I love this iconic character and all that she represents, and I am truly excited by the challenge of inviting a new audience into her universe,” added Rodriquez.
“Barbarella” first appeared on the big screen in the bizarre 1968 hallucinogenic sexy sci-fi schlock version starring Jane Fonda, during her pre-political vixen era. It was directed by Fonda’s husband of the time, Roger Vadim and co-starred John Phillip Law as the angel Pygar. It quickly turned into a camp classic film. The futuristic female sex-pot hero first appeared in a French comic book by Jean-Claude Forest in 1961.
