Phil & Kaja Foglio Guest On Slice of SciFi Show #110

May 20, 2007 By Sam Sloan 1 Comment

000kajafoglioweb1.jpg000philfoglioweb.jpgWe are pleased to bring you Phil and Kaja Foglio on our next Slice of SciFi Show #110, on Wednesday, May 23, 2007. Phil and Kaja are married; cartoonists, comic-book artists and publishers — famous for “Myth Adventures,” “Another Fine Myth,” “Buck Godot” “XXXenophile,” and the very popular and highly praised retro-fantasy “Girl Genius”.

The couple helped pioneer the idea of moving from traditional comic-book publishing to online web-comic presentation, even offering some of their creations for no fee from the Internet.

Phil is a two-time HUGO Award winner. Kaja, a successful publisher, founded Studio Foglio LLC and works with Phil in the creation of their acclaimed “Girl Genius” series.

In the News:
Scotty’s ashes went up into space, came back down, got lost and then have been found. The video market is growing despite the obvious fact of local and national widespread closure of your corner video rental store. More of Star Trek’s visionary ideas from the future are becoming a reality with the universal translator called the Phraselator P2.

Movie Talk:
The gang takes an interest in Russian director Timur Bekamambetov’s next in the Watch trilogy of films. His first was the critically loved “Night Watch”. Now, on June 1st, comes “Day Watch” and it is even better than the first. The next will be “Dusk Watch,” but that will have to wait until the release of “Day Watch” in the next couple of weeks.

Because our TV segment is so long covering all that is coming our way this fall on the 5-major broadcast networks, we have had to cut our Special Segment this week. Don’t worry, Doug will be back for the following show with 3-new trivia clips to stump your brain.

TV Talk:
Most of our show is dedicated to covering much of what SF fans can expect from NBC, CBS, ABC, Fox and The CW networks for the 2007-2008 season. All I will say here is that it will be a great year for SF fans because the networks have finally learned from the success of “Heroes,” “Battlestar Galactica” and “Lost,” and have jumped whole-hog on the SF bandwagon for this new season coming up in just a few months. There is so much on tap that even if the networks end up canceling three-quarters of them, there will still be plenty to cool-off your SF fever……and, time didn’t even allow us to discuss all the SF that will be coming our way soon on cable. SF will truly reign supreme this new season on Network Television and more.

Future Talk:
Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson are joining forces to direct and produce three back-to-back feature films based on George (Herge’) Remi’s Belgian comic-strip hero Tintin. Find out what these two visionaries behind the camera have in mind for this film. It will knock your socks off!

A Spielberg/Jackson team-up should be enough of a blockbuster show all by itself, but we have the fall line-up of SF shows on Network television, a look at “Day Watch” news and that great interview with the legendary comic creators Phil and Kaja Foglio. This is a show you will not want to pass up.

Slice of SciFi Show #110 will be ready for download on Wednesday, May 23, 2007 and one-week later on XM-Satellite Radio. Be sure to set some time aside for this one because there is just too much here for a SF fan to miss.

I am very very happy to hear about the Tintin movies. I grew up reading these graphic novels, courtesy of my aunt who worked in the US Embassy in Belgium in the 1970s.

For anyone that hasn’t heard of Tintin, here’s the official website:
