The first week of the “Spider Man 3” premiere fest is over and the web-slinging master has dominated the box office. Those who watch this kind of thing thought the film’s weekend box office tally was awesome. Well, by week’s end on Thursday night they about fell out of their chairs.
“Spider Man 3” can boast of a monumental first week take of nearly $183 million. There is no other film in the projected Top Ten for the week that even comes close to matching those kinds of numbers. The closest film to barely come close enough to smell the after-burner fumes of this mega-blockbuster would be the Ferrell/Heder hit goof “Blades of Glory” which has taken several weeks to reach the $112 million mark.
Final figures are in and the Top Five grossers ending out the week look to be Spidey in #1, the Hitchcock “Rear Window” remake titled “Disturbia” hangs on at #2, “Fracture”, “The Invisible” and Cage’s SF thriller “Next” round out the top five. Not a bad week for genre films. Six out of ten films listed are genre related.
We will have the Top Ten weekend films for you later next week.
