Sequels already in the works

May 7, 2007 By Mike Hickerson 5 Comments

With “Shrek 3” still over a week away from its theatrical debut, plans are already in the works for a fourth installment about the animated ogre. Mike Mitchell, who directed “Sky High”, is in negotiations with DreamWorks Animation to bring “Shrek 4” to the big-screen, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

The fourth installment already has a script, penned by Tim Sullivan and recently re-written by Josh Klausner. No word yet on a potential release date for the fourth “Shrek” film.

Meanwhile, it looks like the villains for “Spider-Man 4” have been leaked to the public, according to Cinematical. The fourth installment would see Spidey going up against two villains–Carnage and the Lizard. The alter-ego for the Lizard, Dr. Curt Connors has featured in each of the first three installments of the “Spider-Man” franchise, including a pivotal role in “Spider-Man 3.”

The Lizard is created when Dr. Curt Connors injects himself with a serum derived from lizard DNA to help regrow his lost arm. The experiment goes awry and he turns into a giant lizard. In the comics, Connors terrorized the Florida Everglades in his first appearance. The scientist moved to New York later with his family, who shared his dark secret. In the comics, Peter Parker was able to use his knowledge of science to device a cure for Connors without harming him.

The other villain would be Carnage. Carnage would be almost as dark a storyline as Venom. The symbiote that created Venom is part of the Carnage back-story, bonding with a serial killer, Cletus Kassidy while he and Eddie Brock are in the same prison.

There are also rumors the Black Cat might make an appearance in the fourth Spidey movie.

None of this has been confirmed yet by the studio and beyond Connors (who is already cast in the series) there are no rumors of who could or would get the roles.

*SPOILER ALERT OF THE WASH DIES VARIETY*

    *SERIOUSLY*

Um, since Eddie Brock is dead at the end of Spidey 3, how would that work? Would another psace rock with a symbiote on it crash near Kassidy?

    *spoilers*

Remember that doctor Conners had a piece of the symbiote in his lab. He just has to feed it or something and grow it into a whole new one.

Personally I’m hoping that the movie takes a bit from the Ultimate Spider-Man mythos and have Gwynn Stacy become Carnage.

But Gwen seems like a nice girl, wasn’t Carnage a Psychotic killer in the original mythos, making him even worse with the symbiote?

In the Ultimate Spider-Man comic line, Carnage is created by Doc Connors experimenting with a sample from the Venom Symbiote. As Rob pointed out, Connors still has that Venom sample. I’d be very surprised if this isn’t what happens.

Oh, and Carnage was pyschotic killer several times worse than Venom. It will be interesting (or disappointing) to see how Rami will maintain the younger audience/PG-13 rating responsible for so much of the sales.
